scripty lightbox and carousel

Hi,

I’ve a carousel with scripty lightbox (yes Waltd i got it to work) for enlarging each image, excellent, everything works really well on all browsers - except Internet Explorer (what else) on pc running xp. With this combination the lightbox initially opens to a tiny square (guess 30px). If I close and then click on the image again it works ok.
Is this something I will just have to put up with or have a to use another slideshow option ie. SSP ?

Can someone please sue MS for having such a c…p browser please or is there a que:)

Don’t feel you have to mask the site address by putting spaces in there!

In fact, please also always include http:// or whatever is the right
protocol at the beginning of all URLs. I read Freewaytalk exclusively
by email, and only fully-qualified URLs are presented to me as
visible hyperlinks.

hi Keith,

Normally I wouldn’t but I did have an embarrassing situation once when a freewaytalk question appeared next to a search for given website.

In this instance I didn’t feel the site was 100% required to see or colour the question /rumination.

seoras,

I have seen this same effect, small empty box, on occasion when using
Fancy Zoom. I always assumed it had something to do with my browser
trying to display an image it had not yet downloaded from the server.
The second click shows the image correctly.

It’s a timing issue. The image isn’t anywhere that the browser can
measure it for dimensions, so it can’t be calculated for the zoom
effect. Once the image is cached and available in memory, it works
correctly. One thing that can alleviate the problem for poor, busted
IE is to make your images smaller (file size particularly, not
necessarily pixels).

Hi Waltd,

It’s a timing issue.

Ah right, ok. thanks.

I’ll try and downsize the images - question: does the ‘zoomed’ image reference the quality setting of the trigger image or is it referenced straight from the ‘original’ ?

Either way I’ll give it a tweak.

Forget that last question of mine - sorted. It doesn’t.

Normally I wouldn’t but […]

Aha, I understand.

In situations like that it can be helpful to use a folder on your own
personal web space. That’s often a good idea anyway, at least while
you’re working out design ideas.

Ok.

Thought an update would be in order.

Tweaked my images used for the enlarged (zoomed) image which I exported out of Lightroom at 50 quality setting (not sure how this compares with save for web in PS) down to 136k (test image) for an image thats 700px wide, starting to get mushy.
This is an image that I hadn’t ‘zoomed’ before on IE (latest and at default), so not cached.
Still the same, aaarrgghhh!!!

All other browsers on mac and pc don’t have a problem with this. Including Safari 5 that I’ve just downloaded onto my pc.

I’ll check on some other pc’s by way of a next step and also see if I can make images smaller.

I wonder if Bill Gates as he’s sitting surfing away on his latest IE browser realises to what extent his and others experience is compromised, or if he really doesn’t give a …

ps/ Keith no problem. this site is up and running albeit with a hamstring issue if viewed on IE
