ScriptyLightbox feature request

Again, my apologies for asking for more.
Again, these requests have come from both my own use of ScriptyLightbox and from my students…

A way to have ‘next’ and ‘previous’ controls while viewing a lightboxed image. Perhaps require having items inline in an HTML box to provide the running order? Or maybe add a ‘pick next/previous Lightbox item’ option in an item’s ScriptyLightbox actions UI?

A way to add text to what’s shown in an item’s Lightbox display.
Cabel’s FancyZoom does this rather nicely: cabel.name: FancyZoom 1.1 (I also like FancyZoom’s subtly Mac-like appearance and position of the close icon.)

Speaking for Walt (which is dangerous), I know that the lightbox he used to create ScriptyLightbox is no longer supported by the developer and adding new features (I’ve got a list myself) would require a complete re-build.

I also know that he is rather busy with other projects at the moment.

Perhaps people can add requests to this thread and he can get to them in the future.

Just to echo what I often do when asked, my list of requirements for a
JavaScript library to power this effect is quite short:

  1. Must be open source, prefer MIT, BSD or Apache (or similar,
commercial-friendly) licenses to anything GPL. In a real pinch, I will
use LGPL, but that’s pushing it.
  2. Must love dogs (er, I mean Prototype.js)
  3. Must support a wide range of content formats transparently.
  4. Should not rely on non-standard or invalid code. Using the class or
rel attributes to signal extra goodies = good; making up your own
    attributes = bad.

Other than that, I am remarkably easy to please. If you know of a
lightbox system that fits the bill, please do let me know. I spent
hours and days ripping apart the Lightwindow to make it work with the
way Freeway builds pages, and further gray hairs trying to make Flash
and QuickTime size appropriately on Windows (still hit-or-miss). So
there’s no love lost between me and Stickman Labs. But that said,
Lightwindow 2 covers a wide swath of my short list, so it sucks less
than everything else I have tried.

Oh, and I should say, I can’t consider anything that would require my
users to pay for a license in order to use legally. While I trust all
of you implicitly, I do not want to be in the middle of your legal or
moral obligations.
