I’m spending a large amount of time researching SEO (Search engine optimisation) at the moment and have found some very good information of this forum, including Keith’s Be Found - design findable web sites that get ranked with the best.
My question is regarding submitting the site’s URL to search engines etc. Once the site is optimized as best it can be through the design and build process, uploaded and live, who should the URL be submitted to for listings?
Is there a definitive list of places or sites that the designer should send the new URL to or is it just a case of letting the spiders find it and rank it?
Hope someone can help.

If the site is linked to from another site, then the main search engines could well find it anyway.
But to be sure, go to each major search engine, and enter for example in Google “add my site to Google” it will show where to go and what to do. This is generally same of all the rest. Do as many as you can manually like this.
Our hosting does give each hosting account a Google site map, that when activated from the control panel, will submit the site, and site map to Google for you.

But ignore the sites that claim to do this for you for a fee.
And also be aware that submitting your site doesn’t affect your
ranking at all, assuming that Google would have been able to find
it in some other way.
