Senior moment...

I’m being forgetful today…

Supposing I have a rectangle, and an arbitrary path. I’d like to use
the path to ‘slice’ the rectangle into two shapes, each with one side
the same shape as the path. How do I do that? I’ve been fiddlingon
for ages, and I just can’t remember how.

Thanks,
Phil

I’m no expert, but I think you have to do something like this:

Duplicate the two objects as two separate sets, maybe on different
layers

1st set make object A in foreground
select all

2nd set make object B in foreground
select all
object > paths > subtract

There’s probably a better more elegant way of doing this…

It’s a bit fiddly;

  1. Draw a path with the Paths tool.

  2. Select Convert>Stroke to Fill.

  3. Position the path over the rectangle where the split is to be, overlapping the rectangle on both sides.

  4. Select both objects.

  5. Select Paths>Exclude.

  6. Select Paths>Separate.

  7. Deselect all.

  8. With the Selection tool selected, click on the bottom of the rectangle. The bottom shape can be dragged away from the top.

Delete the overlapping shapes with the Point Selection tool.
