SEO and Freeway

Hi
I run a small design and print business and my website has been up and running just over a year. (www.priorygraphics.co.uk)
In all honesty my background technical skills come from print production, so Freeway was a breath of fresh air.
But the complexities of programming etc I just don’t have time for.
What I would like to do is get my site on to the first page of Google, so I would like help and tips on how to do this myself using Freeway.
I realise this is a big subject.
Thanks
Mike

What I would like to do is get my site on to the first page of Google

First and foremost you have to be realistic about your expectations.

To be first in any category - or even the first page - is difficult and expensive. There are many, many companies like yours that are willing to spend far more than you are to get there.

In saying that there are lots of ways that you can help - Keith has some excellent advice on the subject at Be Found - design findable web sites that get ranked with the best

And a quick add on after a quick look at your site - ditch the Graphic text and convert to HTML or you stand NO chance.

We would all love to be page one on Google but you don’t say what
words you want to be found on? This is the first issue you need to
decide apon.

Also HTML text - this is a must, don’t use graphics for your body text.

Kind Regards

Thanks for the replies

Yes perhaps I am being over optimistic (very unlike me).
I have already printed the article mentioned from Keith’s site.
Yes I agree, my website was my first attempt at a site in Freeway, so one of my jobs to do was to change the text to HTML.
Words I want to be found on are like Printers in town I live, Designers, Sheffield, Notts, etc etc all trade type links.
At the moment if I type in Google "Printers in town I live’ my site appears no where.
So need to generate more hits to the site.

Words I want to be found on are like Printers in town I live, Designers, Sheffield, Notts, etc etc

So you need to use all that text in your pages - and as HTML not graphic text

A search for Printers in Worksop gave 'Results 1 - 10 of about 43,500 for printers in worksop ’

So that is a lot of competing pages.

Follow Keith’s advice and it will all help - but expect no silver bullet answer. It takes time.

Can’t repeat too strongly - HTML text, as that’s what search engines
index. Make sure your copy content is clear and concise and contains
your key ‘search’ words in the order they are likely to be keyed in to
a search bar, where possible, with any obvious variations on the same
page - as long as you don’t become too repetitive.

Make sure content for different elements of your business are clearly
separated on specific pages or distinct areas of the page and ensure
your page titles say exactly “what’s in the tin”. File names, too
should be descriptive.

You’ve got the basis of a very good site in what you have done and
it’s mainly the graphic text that’s letting you down.

It’s also worth submitting a site map to search engines. I use Rage
Automator:

Currently, my clients web sites all have ‘Page 1’ rankings for
important search terms, just through simple attention to content
construction, the site maps and no particular trickery.

I forgot to say. Even when you’ve HTML’d your site, don’t expect an
overnight miracle. It takes time for search robots to spider your site
and decide your ranking.
