SEO Optimization Question?

I’m optimizing one of my clients websites. From what I’ve read, Google likes it when your URL, title, h1 tag, and meta description are all similar.

My question is this, from an SEO perspective, is it okay to pickup the 65 characters from the title and simply expound upon that for the 156 character description?

It’s not a problem if you enlarge your title in the writing of your meta description. However, keep in mind that the only two things the net surfer sees in the search results are your title in the blue hyperlink and the description in the line below that in the search results. SEO-wise, the title is far more important than the description.

But … it’s often the description that catches the surfer’s attention and gets him/her to click on your link. Don’t be afraid to get creative in your description, even if it doesn’t sound similar to the wording of your title. Basically, Google pays scant attention to the description for SEO purposes. The description is really your chance to write a compelling “catch” sentence or two that will draw surfers to click on your webpage.

P.S. There’s no guarantee that Google will even use your meta description. Sometimes they choose a phrase from your text that they believe describes that webpage better. But my experience is that in the majority of cases they will simply post your meta description. So again, get creative and write a description that will “set the hook” into web surfers.

Hello,

Not directly linked to your question, however when you mention character numbers for certain fields, i thought i read somewhere that Google was moving away from the straight forward character count principle and moving towards max Pixel width.

Anyone else heard this?

John
