SEO queation

My home page has little html text only 4 hyperlinks. I’d rather not have any text on the page for the design’s sake, this site is for art directors to view mostly. So for search engines sake I’ve decided to put text on an additional rollover that will display the keyword rich copy as the icon is rolled over. My question is will this appease the search engine gods?

If the Search Engine gods even suspect that you’re pulling a fast
one, you could find your site blacklisted. Seriously. And if that
happens you’d probably be best off ditching it and getting a new one,
at least as far as SEO goes.

The idea is to make a site for the users, not for search engine
spiders, but to make it with readable text rather than images of
text. With practise and the right kinds of control you can make an
HTML text-rich layout that looks great. And because it is rich with
machine-readable text it will automatically work well in search
engine indexes.

woe…I do want to make this site for the users…something unique in design for art directors. The graphic text on the opening page is my logo on top of png images. I have copy on all the other pages… just not on the home page. I’m not trying to pull anything shady…If I went without copy on the home page and kept the 4 hypertext links would this have any negative repercussions as far as site ranking? I’m not very seo savy and am trying to keep my design while understanding the strategy and benifits of seo. I’m trying to balance while compromising. So exactly how detrimental is an opening page with out html text and only hyperliinks.

any additional comments are greatly appreciated for this artist in the dark

Perhaps you should read Be Found - design findable web sites that get ranked with the best

It would be safer to avoid things that could be seen as spamming
rather than risking getting marked down or even blacklisted.

By not having text on the homepage and only hyperlinks you will not upset the search engines, but they will have nothing to capture. I’ve always read http://www.thehelpful.com/befound/index.html
