Separate installation?

I am very interested to try the Beta version but wonder if the installation is separate from my Pro 4 version? I have a couple sites that I cant afford any “bugs” from a beta version, but I want to give it a run to see if it is worth the upgrade.

Also, would a beta file revert back to the Pro 4 with some ease? I suppose that is a dumb question… obviously the new features wouldn’t work, but would the Pro 4 version even open a beta file?

Any final date for the full version of 5?

As long as you are deliberate about which version of Freeway you
launch your files with, there should be no trouble. If Freeway 4 is
running, and Freeway 5 is not, you may find that the Mac OS decides
to launch the “latest” version of Freeway if you double-click a
Freeway file in the Finder. But if you drag that file’s icon over the
Freeway 4 icon in the Dock, you are being crystal-clear what you want
to happen, and it will happen.

I don’t expect that Freeway 4 will ever open any files created in
Freeway 5. This has been true for as long as there have been versions
of Freeway. Upgrade means upgrade, and you can’t go back. But you can
make duplicates and work on the copies in Freeway 5 to experiment,
and have your virgin Freeway 4 file to go back to later.

It is separate; I have both on my Mac, and I can run both at the same
time. Remember that the public beta is just that: a beta. There are
some issues with this, which is why it isn’t final. I’m using it for
some semi-real work, and I’m liking it a lot. But be careful what you
commit to.

Nope. Open a copy of your v4 site document. I think the beta will
acutomatically save a copy for v4 separately the first time you save,
but be extra safe until you’ve confirmed this.

No announcements yet! But it has only been a few weeks since this was
made available. I’m hoping for a final release soon too, but the
most important thing is that the Softpress people make a truly robust
version first. And we can help by using this beta and feeding back
comments and bug reports to the list.

Thanks for the feedback! I will download the beta version and give it a try on a sample site I am working on - I would hope that I could release the site by mid-February, but that looks like too soon (unless I use it as a beta5 release…)

See how it goes. The bugs I’ve seen will only catch you if you try to
do fairly specific things, and you’d know when you previewed your
work. The odds are that if your published pages work fine, they’ll be
fine.

Well so far so good. I have only found a few little things and sent in emails. I am sure they have been fixed by now - just quirks on using it. I cant seem to find where or how I make the floating text open/close like the FAQs on the FW site (as an example). I have to dig for stuff - also my icons across the top look the same - some screen shots appear to have an updated user interface.

I love what I see so far - and I think my pages load even faster!! The navigation bar is a HUGE asset to v5… LOVE IT.
