I opened FW5, clicked Open Recent and selected my project. What I got was a version of it from a month ago. I have spent the last 4 hours searching everywhere I possible could, including manual and Time Machine backup drives. The only freeway document with the proper file name is one last modified on Dec 19, 2011.
Yesterday I uploaded the site, saved, and closed FW. I didn’t restart or shut down the computer.
I found all of the html files in a different folder (I may have messed up the file structure after rebuilding my machine on Dec 17). All of my resources are on the computer too. When I look in finder at the timeline of files used for yesterday it doesn’t even show the FW application, although it does show all the html files.
I am obviously concerned that I will have 50+ hours ahead of me to recreate the site.
My guess is my computer is having an issue, but I’m hoping someone has experienced this in the past and can offer some other things to try.
The backup file is created when the document is opened successfully. It represents the “last known good” version of the file before any changes. If something failed during the opening process, you would not get the backup (although you should have the previous one – it’s not overwritten unless the open succeeds.

Sorry, there was a point in there, and it was – if you find this file, it will be a snapshot of the state of the file before the 50+ hours of work you did to it.

Thanks. I think I understand how the backup works. I close and open FW at least once a day. The strange thing is the backup is nowhere to be found either.
Anyone have any recommendations on file recovery software? I’ve looked at Disk Warrior and Data Rescue 3.
