Should I be using v5 right now?

Or wait? I’m new to Freeway and still fumbling around, though I have one fully Freeway-built site up http://www.engelconsulting.org/ and another (my very first attempt) in early development http://www.elektrastride.com/ (still waiting on product technical details).

I came to Freeway after years of self taught HTML, though with a background in DTP I’m not completely lost…the thing is though, is learning to use version 4 going to be an asset or a detriment when 5 is ready? (read: Should I just start in 5?) In hand with these questions, is the beta 5 stable enough to use without fear of crashes and/or loss of work?

Thanks for input on this in advance - cheers!

I think you’ll be just fine working with v4 for now. What you learn in that version will set you up nicely for v5 when it releases for real.

Meanwhile, please use the FW5 preview to test stuff out, see what it can do, and continue to give the folks at Softpress the feedback to make it better. The preview release is about as stable as a beta gets, I think.

As the beta download page says: “Beta is software developer language for “not quite ready and there will be bugs” – in other words, Freeway 5 will not be as smooth as you would expect from our software. It will have bugs in it, and it may not represent the quality or feature set of the release. We are working hard to ensure that Freeway 5 is the smoothest web design experience ever.”
