Signature for Mail Client(s) containing images

Hi the experts,

I need your advice or opinion:

Somebody wants to have an email signature (Outlook uahhh) very similar to his business cards. They shall contain an image of each employee and company logo and stuff.

Now my personal opinion is:

Annoying and simply a no-go.

If I receive emails like this, often with attachments, I mostly save all to scratch (cause it angers me to save each single as) and have finally a bunch of stuff on plus to the attachments, that sucks. And I know that a lot of people even disables images (plain text) so any efforts in this direction is anyway senseless.

How do you treat issues like this. What way would you go to do or argue? What do you think in general?

If you could spend your five cents on this would be great stuff.

Thanks and Cheers in advance

Thomas

I’m with you in that I think it’s a horrible idea.

However, if the client insists - and they’re paying for a service, after all - then I’d consider making them single image blocks containing the information they want. That can be saved to a low res JPEG or even a GIF which doesn’t take up a whole lot of bandwidth. Of course, you’d need to include text versions of the information below it, just so nothing is missed.

I got an email yesterday that had six - SIX! - separate logos attached to it. What a pointless thing to do.

Cheers

Heather

Hi Thomas

I’m all for KIS - keep it simple, but some people just insist and they don’t realise how annoying it is. I also receive many emails with loads of attachments and then when I have to save an attachment, usually a photo for publication, it can be confusing to know which one it is, because the photos I save are all low-res. Plus it takes longer for the email to download, unless it’s a small image. A client of mine has a massive image in the signature and it’s very annoying.

However, some clients insist and you just have to do what you have to do.

Good luck with this one,

Elizabeth

Thomas

If you must have images in a signature then have them load from the server when the email opens. Do this by creating a HTML signature with direct links to the images on the server.

It easier to do this on PC than on Mac. On a Mac you need to go to home > library > Mail > Signatures > find which mail signatures (a text file) you need to edit and edit/add HTML using a plain text editor.

Hi my dear,

thanks for your cents, valuable and helpful and good to know not being alone.

In brief:

Yes I need to do it. Or better said, I only have to deliver stuff (images) but I’m afraid to do more on this so thank you David for this pointing I’ll keep in mind for sure. I anyway have a few questions to you where I’m not sure on how to ask. I’ll probably do this in PM you directly?

Cheers

Thomas
