site doesn't automatically refresh

When I edit my website and then go online to view it, it does not
always refresh, but loads the old page, even if I quit the browser
and reopen. Of course, I’m not concerned about myself because I know
I need to refresh it, but most people will not know that they are not
looking at the current page. Is there a setting I can adjust so I
know that other viewers will see the most current page? I’m using
Freeway Pro 3.5.15 on a PowerBook G4.

Thanks,
Claire

Since you’re using Freeway 3.5.15 you could use this action:

http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=003

In version 4 and Up the action is built in called, “No Cache.” Which means that it forces the browser to pull the page from the server not a previously stored copy of it. That action says it’s a 3.1 action so it should work for you.

If you want to get more technical, you could goto HTML markup and “Before ” you could put:

Either / or will work. Good Luck.

I promise I am an intelligent individual, but I don’t know what to do
with that line of text above. I’ve maintained this website for three
years and never used actions. I always keep thinking that one day I
will get around to watching the tutorials! Do you mind explaining
the steps?

Thanks,
Claire

Sure, I must admit first I didn’t really “get into” Freeway 3.5, so if some of the options are different then let me know.

First you can download the action file from that web address I posted above. To load the action into Freeway, simply open Freeway (the application) and drag the “action file” on top of the Freeway icon in the dock to “install” the action into Freeway. You might get a little dialog box that says, “You’re about to install Freeway actions.” I usually drag my downloads to my desktop so I can drag plug-ins easier. But whatever.

The other way is to on your Master Page goto, ‘Page’ and select ‘HTML Markup.’ You’ll get a little dialog box that has a drop-down menu at the bottom left of it with the word ‘Insert:’ to the left of it. Set this menu to select ‘Before ’ and paste the code as is into the white space. Then hit OK.

What this does it forces the browser to not store the files (called a cache) and to pull them from the server as new copies. Which seems to be what you’re looking for.
