slide show

Does anyone have a suggestion regarding the best way to display a slide show of picture book covers that will need a box of text along side of them. I initially thought I wanted a carousel format but after reading the threads about it, I’ve opted out.

Appreciate your expertise.

What about Showcase? It allows captions - are you wanting more than a couple of lines.

Can I ask why you’ve ruled out Carousel? It really does offer an easy way to do this sort of layout.

And of course ScriptyFader http://www.deltadesign.co/fw_examples/scriptyfader.html

Thanks for replying David. Yes, I figure about a 2"x2" text box giving a brief description about the book and a hyperlink to interior illustrations.
I recognize the word “Showcase” I tried to find it in the FE reference manual but nothing showed up. Is it a FE action? that I would download and install?

What version of FW do you have because it comes as a standalone companion app with FW 5+

Is it Express that you have - if so your options are more limited.

Hi Walter, Thank you for replying.

I went to the Softpress Actions Knowledge base to find a carousel option. I was reading a thread that was started back in 2008 and not everyone was having luck with it. In all honesty, this newbie was scared off.

If you have other options or know of something that would work for me, I’m all ears. I think the carousel would work great for what I’m trying to do. Can I put a hyperlink in the text for interior illustrations?

Thanks
L

yea, I have Freeway Express 5.5 version 5.6.1. I think that’s the latest. Are you saying that the Pro version would give me more options?

The Action has changed a lot in the past few years, and has become easier to use as a result. However, you refer to Express in this thread or another – and so it’s not going to work for you anyway. If you want to add a carousel (lower-c) of any kind, you’re going to need to hand-code it in the Page / HTML Markup and Insert / Markup Item dialogs. There’s no way to add third-party Actions like mine to Freeway Express.

Express 5.5 has the Showcase app bundled with it - you should have installed it at the same time as FW - in your Applications folder - have a look.

There is an update to 5.6.2 available as well.

And certainly Pro would give you many more options, Carousel being one of them, which you cannot use with Express.

Excellent thank you David. I took a quick look in the manual and found something on Showcase. Can I add text to this?

Its on ActionsForge - the home of all great FW actions - but as you are an Express user it is of no use to you.

I downloaded a copy of this Showcase and there is not enough text space.

I have been watching the third “Getting Started Tutorial” for Freeway 5. THere is a roll over slide show in that that I am going to use for now but I’m having a couple of problems. When I add all the pictures to the large target area, all the pictures do not appear in the actions window so I am unable to tic them in sequential order. Some times some of the pictures are repeated while other do not show up at all.
Any ideas?
Also, can I attach text to these pictures? Would I do this in the thumbnails? or in the target box?

How much space do you need?

Awesome! I did not know that, I would like bigger thumbnails anyway. I will give it another go.

Thanks!

D, will I be able to hyperlink from the text to another page? I need to show interior illustrations for each book. Can I do that once I import the slide show into FE?

Dave,

How did you make the large image look like a Polaroid? That’s what I’m trying to do right now.

I figured it out. This Showcase action is really cool! Not as cool as Carousel ;-), but still pretty cool.
