hi there - I know you can auto-size a Graphics box to its content by shift-command-D - but for TEXT that only sizes the box vertically - it doesn’t size it horizontally - is there a workaround? — also, what’s up with phantom cursors, strange formatting copy-pasting, and other all-around bugginess? I am on 5.5.4, but still having these issues - everybody else too, or am I special? thanks - Rolf in MA
I may be a bit dim, but how would an ‘autosize horizontally’ know where to make line breaks? Text wraps within the size of container you make according to size and style.
And I’ve never had a phantom cursor, and only the odd strange copy and paste (usually direct from Word), but you can overcome that by Paste and Match Style, in the Edit Menu - and what other bugginess? Compared to much other software, FW seems remarkably bug free.
Perhaps you - and maybe your system - are special!

ey, I adore FW, don’t get me wrong - I’ve never used any other site writer (so maybe I’m spoiled) - but if text is a GIF, shouldn’t that be like any other graphic event, and autosize just like to a picture? you’ve already set the line breaks - thanks for the Match Style tip - and I’ve had phantom cursors on many different computers in many different versions of the program over years -just sayin’
My comments were made as a ‘Pro’ user (I see elsewhere you use ‘Express’) and not meant to be critical of you, nor did I realise you were using GIF text. That makes two differences - 1) I see your point that it’s an image, but suspect it doesn’t become that until it is published, so the wrap rules will still apply until then; and 2) GIF text is not search engine friendly (because it is seen as a graphic and can’t be searched), so it is better to stick with HTML as far as possible, excepting decorative headlines or non essential short text (such as pull quotes, repeated in HTML text elsewhere).
Hope that sound more helpful than damning!

hey Colin - the text is copyrighted, so the author wants to keep it graphical to cut down on infringement - not sure if that’s a good idea or not, but it’s what he wants — even after publishing, graphics box still won’t autosize - Rolf
Rolf, I think you will find that the FW file - from which you Publish to the Site Folder - is basically a set of instructions for displaying the Page View. Otherwise you would not be able to edit graphic type after it was published. Effectively, when you Preview and then revert to Page view, the first is looking at the published page and the second takes you back the raw file. Each time you make a change the whole page is republished so as to have the cleanest possible code.
So, unless someone from Softpress chips in to prove me wrong, it’s something we have to live with.
As to the text being a GIF for copyright protection, it’s not difficult to OCR a graphic file with scanning software and pick out the text that way, if someone’s determined to plagiarise.
