So Tables aren't the spawn of the devil, after all

When these guys post it, you can bet the wave of agreement will crest
pretty soon…

Hi there

Very interesting post.

I was wondering if, in theory, it could be possible for Freeway in a future incarnation to convert tables into CSS to make the ‘box model’ easier to work with? That way we could get the very best code but the layout would be easier to work with and set up.

Just a thought (as I still like working with tables!)

All the best

Argh shipmate … they be wise words, tables indeed rule the interweb seas. In fact I’m standing on one right now but that’s another story

Repeat after me: “The box model is NOT the only CSS fruit”!

CSS does not equal box model.

If you draw objects in Freeway Pro with the CSS button hilighted then
you get CSS-positioned objects in what you publish. If you select an
object and uncheck the Layer checkbox in the Inspector palette then
that item will be published as part of an invisible table structure.
If you select an unlayered item and click the Layer checkbox then it
will be published as a CSS-positioned item.

The box model is just one way of working with CSS. It is a method
that promises much but does tend to lead many users onto the rocks,
siren-like.

IMHO, Flash is much more akin to a siren’s song, or devil worship, than tables are.

You’ll have to excuse me now as I am being lured by a sweet melody wafting from the shores of CSS…
