I’d like to be the first to say congratulations to Softpress for what can only be described as a very fair price for the early bird upgrade to Version 5.0. and all the more reason for everybody to support and promote them.

I’m off to dig out my credit card.

Cheers

Gary

So should I move from v4 to v5 now?

if you have any new projects to start it is a good time because you will not have to go through the updating sites fun and games. you may have to live with any beta bugs if they affect you. otherwise there is no reason to hurry - other than you are getting it at a better price before final release and it will not do Softpress any harm - will help their cash flow probably (-:

I have because I have three new but fairly simple sites to produce and I’d rather start them from scratch with V5.

if memory serves me correctly, a Softpress upgrade is a completely new install of the application rather than a serious modification of existing software. i think that’s what happened going from 3.5 to 4. yes? no?

Yes. Plus, if you open a site created in an older version, Freeway
will helpfully warn you and - unless you are intending to work on a
copy anyway - will save the original version intact the first time
you save in a newer version.

All of which means if you come unstuck in a new version, you can at
least step back to an earlier version because wise users keep copies
of their previously installed versions of Freeway, right?

I’d have a devil of a job to recall exactly what edits had been applied
since a previous date so I only see this as good in the immediate transition
and better than nothing if major wobbles force retreat at a later date.

I wouldn’t want to slow Freeway down any more that it already is but if
there were a document log that outlined events it could be handy.
date
page
item create / delete / edited / action applied.

It might also be useful to recall work done when I am so busy doing it that
I don’t account for it.

or it may be a stupid idea that isn’t worth the overhead.

all the best
Brian
