All licenses include a free upgrade to v5.0… is this for all

I think, as in the move from FW3.x to 4, there will be a cost to
upgrading to existing licence holders (except those who purchase
Freeway 4 from now on, of course). At this stage, no pricing
structure for Freeway 5 has been announced.

You can see the current Freeway 4 upgrade pricing structure here:

HI,
to clarify - this is on the home page, in bold:

“All customers who purchase Freeway 4 after January 1, 2008 will receive a free downloadable upgrade to the new version when it is finalized.”

This text is also in the press release.

I put the two comments below together and get…

This is version 5 because when a complete version is released/
announced it heralds a new upgrade price threshold no matter how
extensive/limited the new feature set is. The accountants say,
version 4.5 would be expected to be free so lets call it 5.0.

This pricing model is not limited to Softpress. Still, someone’s got
to pay for the R&D and the Softpress wages so spose we shouldn’t
grumble. It has been a while since 4.0.

Cheers
Pete

But is this an upgrade worthy of being called Freeway 5? Or should
it really be Freeway 4.5 and the new actions be sold separately?
What do you think? Maybe I’m just too cynical…

Chris.

I’ve had a play with it and so far it feels quite disappointing. Nothing wrong with it as such, just that I haven’t seen a single compelling reason yet to upgrade and I feel these are all extras that should have already been included long before reaching version 5. A couple extra actions doesn’t cut it.

I shall reserve judgement until I’ve had time to ‘have a play’ with v.
5, myself (I’ve only just downloaded it). However, I think there will
always be areas of disappointment in any upgrade if the specific
features we want are not included - and that applies to any
application. Let’s not forget that the work that goes on ‘under the
hood’ to make Freeway so easy to use is just as important (perhaps
more so?) as additional features.

Nevertheless, new features and enhancements are important, especially
when you jump to the next version number, so I have some sympathy with
‘cornishman’s’ comments. More important to me, though is that the
transition of sites from Freeway 4 to Freeway 5 is as seamless as
possible and smoother than from 3.5 to 4!

At first glance, Freeway looks good, but a truly decent ‘user upgrade’
discount would certainly encourage a faster switch.

Ditto ! I was hoping that a full new version upgrade would have improved the styles and edit styles dialogue windows - should be one window where you can sort out all the styles colours and all the extended stuff in one go - that would be a time saver !

ask the accountants who decide the prices of the upgrades, they might agree
