Stock Photo Management?

What’s the best app for managing stock photos? I’m currently using Adobe Bridge, but I’m looking for a more robust alternative.

Is anyone using Light Room for this?

I’m using Expression Media (formally iView MediaPro) as I know the product inside out (I used to work on both apps in a former life). It is getting a bit dated now but still offers a lot of punch when it come to media management and asset tagging.

Phase One now own the product and have taken it square into the pro photo market and away from its original asset management roots;

If I was looking for an asset manager for stock images I’d be inclined to look at Stock Keeper;

It offers a lot of the asset management tools of the big guns (Expression Media, Portfolio etc) but at a fraction of the cost. The workflow may seem a little odd (it did to me at first) but there are some good core features in there. The developer has also been very positive in regard to suggestions on improving things.
Regards,
Tim.

I use LR and think its excellent, my current catalog has circa 40,000 images and its fine. Can be a bit slow but then I’ve a 3yr old mac mini with basic ram, so can’t complain. Easy to organize images whatever way. Some actually just recommend putting everything into one folder and then use the collections to help sub divide or the various filtering options. I organise by date however.

LR is basically Bridge along with a few other things, development, map, printing, etc… So not sure what you mean by ‘more robust’.

I used to use iView and recommended it ( Cairngorms National Park I think still use it, though it just changed to expression media if I recall), good one Tim, shame MS lost interest but not surprised, maybe phaseone will make it sing again.

Stockkeeper looks very interesting and at $19 a fraction of all else, so worth investigating.

I’m not sure how Aperture fairs with its catalog element but might also be worth a look.

Yeah, I think LR is the way to go, but I’m resisting because I don’t have the time right now to learn yet another app. :slight_smile:

What about iPhoto?

Just idly musing, as an Aperture user and Adobe hater, the current incarnation of iPhoto is pretty amazing.

This is interesting - heres my problem - I have 1000’s of images scattered through years and years of design work spread across two external HDs and 2 Macs they are all connected - is there software out there that can collect up all the images into one neat place then perhaps - deleting copies, and even get them into some kind of order? Im sure most have meta data. I have Bridge CS4 but not sure this can do it or know how too.

I would love to sort my images out - any pointers would be great! Thanks
