Strange cropped W

I have been adding a few pages to a site and find myself completely confused by an odd viewing glitch which is only happening in I.E 6 for Windows. Previously I had installed an HTML Markup item on the master page to make the text appear slightly smaller when I.E was being used and this was carried over to other pages.

Take a look at Home with I.E 6 and you will probably see that the letter W on the first word is slightly clipped and I was experiencing the same problem at Home with the first letter at the start of every paragraph, but only if the letter was a W. Removing that HTML Markup item to make the text the same in I.E as in other browsers removes the problem. No other browser including I.E 7 is effected in this way. I can remove the script but that will then lose the uniform look across the site for I.E users. Does any genius out there know how to fix this other than by convincing every I.E 6 user on the planet they should be using a different browser?

Try Adding in a 1pt or 2pt padding the the left side of the text box (or modify the text style to have a 1pt indent as a global fix). That usually does it.

I had a look in Firefox, using the Firebug plugin’s ‘Inspect’
feature, and came up with this:

It looks like that table cell on the left which holds the border is
clipping the ‘W’. I don’t pretend to know what this means, but it
seems significant. Perhaps someone who knows more than me about
tables can say why an (invisible) table cell should clip a letter in
an adjacent table cell?

best wishes

Its strange but I removed and then replaced the html markup item on some of the pages and found that the W was no longer effected but on the photography page it made no difference so I just changed the first word so that it didn’t start with a W. Its all very odd really and something I’ve never seen before.

Cool. I’ve noticed before that IE6 croppes edges of the leftmost HTML
text letters in some layouts, and I think the ‘W’ was implicated. But
there was no extra script involved. I put it down to Microsoft’s
inattention to detail.
