Hi - I just tried changing the text colour and the header colour in the styles, when I do this all the child pages switch back to their original master state??? Please help this is a major concern…

… which I recognized honestly as well.
I am neither of help nor on the recommending trip - just a simple thought:
Don’t Overthink Master-Concepts.
It should be noted, that I am (was) used to build my entire pages including text in the Master Area. This is historical cause we anyway never had a chance of connecting Master and Child in inflow-constructions. So I started with this method in V6 as well.
And although I UNCHECKED the “use master-content” on each child-page in inspector, closing the FW doc and re-opening it caused, that this previously UNCHECKED buddy magically was CHECKED (ever and ever) again, with the result of having the default text of the Master-Page in all of my connected child-pages again (such as you).
Finally I had to review all my text-stuff again (took me nearly 1 hour). FRUSTRATING!!!
But as I said in the entry:
I was used to … and it’s maybe my mistake - point taken.
CONCLUSION:
A Master-Page should only contain the structure and only content, that REALLY belongs there such as CSS-Menu or a global footer-content. Never ever add any “changeable content-oriented” stuff such as editorial, excerpt or articles to a Master-Page these days. This is variable stuff that belongs into each child-page.
This sounds “Parsel”?
I still have an unpublished screencast that is documenting my dilemma I had in this file and is documenting this unwanted Re-checking of previous un-checked settings.
The is a MAJOR worry for me I already have one pretty big site set up and live Im almost to scared to open it again in FW. Though I didn’t have this problem at all with it???
I’m gonna contact SP this must be a bug that needs addressing ASAP.
The new site I have just started working on (and seing thsi problem is pretty big too (30/40 pages)… and I receive content pretty ad hoc so if I lose the content it really is gone!!!
Try to reproduce this with a brand new, empty document, while no other documents are open. Write down each step you take to get to the failing example. Send the whole thing (document and steps to repeat) to support(a)softpress.com
