Just advanced from iWeb to Freeway. So far so good (and much fun), apart from a couple of things with a site I’m doing for a friend (And I’m sure more to come):
I’ve created a menu with css making a sub menu. It works fine in Safari and Firefox. In Opera and IE the sub menu disappears when I try to move the cursor over it.
The hover, link, underline/colour options don’t seem to work properly according to my settings.
My sub menu appears on the left hand side of the main menu, but I can’t find an option where the arrow points to the left.
I’ve made an “Under construction” box diagonally over the home page. In Freeway it must be misplaced in order for it to appear in the right position when viewed in the browsers.
Any suggestions for solutions for any of my queries greatly appreciated. The address of the site: www.winkels-herding.com.
Thanks,
Jon
It seems that if there is an image behind the menus and they have
no background then the submenus only appear when you hover over the
text. A way round this would be to use a transparent image on both the
normal and hover state of the menus. This fools the browser into
thinking there is something filling the entire space of the menu. A
transparent image can be found in your Resources folder (_clear.gif).
Make a copy of this file in your media folder and then select it from
the Action palette as pointing to a file within your Site Folder is a
bad idea.
Make sure you use the Action palette to change the color of the
text rather than the Inspector. Take a look at the CSS Menus video
tutorial for details of how to go about setting them up: http://www.softpress.com/support/freewaymoments.php
If you have left sided menus then you will need to make/use your
own arrow image that points to the left, select Custom Files in the
Arrow section of the Action palette to choose your image.
This is a bug that affects layer items. Currently the only way
round it is to make the item a non-layer, though this means it will
sit behind any other layered items on the page.
I hope this helps.

Hello Joe, Thank you for a quick and thorough response. As a newbie I have to study this and take my time trying it all. One thing, in your last sentence of your response to my first question, I take it you mean it “is NOT a bad idea”?
Cheers again,
Jon
No, I do mean is a bad idea. When you import an image into Freeway it
makes an internal copy of it (lower quality) for previewing purposes.
When you publish your site Freeway looks at the original image again
and creates a copy in the Site Folder based on your settings in the
document. If the original image is already inside your Site Folder
then it can cause complications. Simplest thing to do is follow this
rule of thumb:
Let Freeway manage what goes in and out of the Site Folder.
If you need to use an image or anything from inside of it then make a
copy of it in another folder and import that.
Hope this helps.
