Sub-Menus Using Slaves

I’m constructing horizontal sub-menus using the CSS Menus and Target Show/Hide Layer Actions which are triggered by main menu items that are Rollover graphic buttons. The rollover triggers appear next to each other while all of the sub-menus are “stacked” in the same area of the page.

I have set the sub-menus for pages of the active main menu item to Initially: Visible and changed the target to not match the rollover trigger. All other sub-menus are set to Initially: Hidden, Restore: Sticky. My first sub-menu works just fine because it is the back layer and all of the other sub-menus appear over it (with a colored background covering it up).

The first problem I’m running into is that moving on to the second sub-menu. It hides the first sub-menu even when the first rollover triggers it as the second sub-menu is a layer forward. I figure I can resolve the problem by shifting the layer of each sub-menu (rather laborious) for each related sub-menu page of a main menu item. I see on the ActionsForge.com site that Hide Slaves and/or Hide Slaves (alternate) is “Useful if you are constructing menus using slaves.” I can’t figure out how these work or how they are “useful.” Any tutorials lying around?

The second problem is with sub-menu behavior as I roll over the main menu items. With the sub-menus set to Hidden and Sticky, they are “properly” appearing as I roll over. However, I have to roll over the active main menu to re-display the active sub-menu. Is there a setting combination (that I haven’t figured out) that will fix this?

If the CSS Menus Action allowed the sub-menu to work horizontally as well, all would be right with the world (sort of), but as far as I can tell it doesn’t work that way. I should also mention that I’m using Tim Plumbs Web Fonts Action as well.

Thanks for any assistance…
