I used Swish back in the day on Windows. Did it ever make it to Mac or ever get updated? I used it back in the day where it could output only Flash 6-7 files.

Thanks Dan - I now feel a total dolt … I didn’t even think, you’re right, it seems to be PC only … I’ll try and find a Mac equivalent, pity this seemed to solve a problem. I don’t have access to “Flash” any more and I need to be able to put After Effects rendered files through something to improve compression and add a playback skin, Flash did this very well but at a heavy financial cost … I’ll get digging. Hi Roger,
I have Swish and it works great. But it doesn’t come in a Mac version, unfortunately. I’m going to try to load it on my MacBook under VM ware one of these days but just haven’t gotten around to it.

However, on the Mac side, I’m using Video2SWF2 which will convert a quicktime movie into a swf file very, very well.
It could be the answer for you. Vertical Moon software.

Thanks Chod, excellent, I’ve bought it and it seems to do just what I need, it came bundled with audio and still 2 swf as well - have you any experience of these especially the “still” bit, are there any advantages to creating a still as an swf over and above a psd or jpg or whatever ?

Regards and thanks for the splendid advice Roger

Hi Rodger,
If the sort of stuff you want to do isn’t too complex EasyWebAnimator might be worth having a look at.

You can download a demo for the Mac and give it a try.

Your welcome Roger. I figured it would serve you as it did me. I bought the same bundle you did and have used the audio but not the still one. I should try it though so I have something to report. I’ve never had any complaints about jpgs so I guess that’s why I haven’t worried about it.

The image content that you get within the Flash format is likely to
be embedded JPEG anyway. The advantage could be allowing resizing of
the image as the browser window is resized, if a few conditions are
satisfied.

But I have to say that I’m rarely convinced by the quality of output
of this sort of thing. Bitmap images have an ‘ideal’ resolution where
their pixels are 1:1 with the display device’s pixels, and anything
else is likely to be not quite as good.

Interesting - the swf version looks the same as the jpg - how should I go about testing the quality 'cause the file size is dramatically smaller (though I don’t know how FW has optimised the file size after the still has been dragged in to freeway … where can I see this information please)?

This could be an interesting test of a relatively cheap utility for reducing size of stills (though I must admit this is starting to get away from my sphere of knowledge) - I could upload the stills if anyone (Keith) wants to check them out ? Regards Roger
