Target image limit?

I 'm trying to do a photo show very similar to the one shown in the Freeway manual video tutorial #3. I understand fully how it works. The problem I’m having is, I have 27 thumbnails/photos and I can only get 20 of them to work. When I select a photo in the stack and select the target image action it does include all 27 BUT in the action palette, in the top horizontal, area it only shows 20. All 27 are listed on the left most column.
Question,
Is there a limit of 20?
If so, is there a work around?

I am not familiar with the video you talk about but as I have been discussing on another thread you can set your target images with numbers 1-20 and you also have the option to use different target groups as well.

If you use Indigo (the default) for the 1st 20 you can then use Aqua (or one of the other groups) for the next 7

Big thanks and an apology. I’ve got to learn to search this forum before I post a question. I see there were a number of people with exactly the same problem. Apparently the answer is, yes, the packaged actions has a 20 image limit. However, there is a target image action available that does 60 images.

Dave, read your post again and am interested in what you said, indigo and aqua. What is that?

You are missing my point.

There are 20 images available for each Target group, there are 10 Target groups (Indigo, aqua etc etc).

This means you can have 200 thumbnails with unique groups/numbers without having to consider using the 60 versions.

indigo and aqua. What is that?

Target group drop down selector - look in the action interface.

Top row Indigo, bottom row aqua (haven’t done them all just enough to show more than 20 with the standard actions.

Dave, I do understand the theory but still don’t see how to implement. I have 27 images all in the same stack If I select one of those images all27 are applied to the action. How do I move the others to a different target group.

Dave, Thanks for the sample. I see one big difference between your example and what I’m trying to do. In the Freeway tutorial that I am following you just select one image in the stack and all images in the stack are thrown into the mix and I could not find anyway to separate them. In other words I could not find a way to move 7 of them to a different target group. You can not select a different image in the stack and apply the action to it and any others. It was ALL or Nothing. Then I see on your example each image (colored square) is a layer which, apparently enables you to apply the action to each image individually. Know what I mean?

Well not strictly speaking - they are not actually layered items.

The difference I think is more to do with the setting for Combining Images is NOT selected.

Yes, I did notice that also. Looking at it even further, I now realize there is a lot different from the instructions I was following. You also used a different action. You used show and hide (something like that) and I’m trying to use target image. I still have to examine it further cause I still haven’t gotten it to work. I could easily go to the action, roll over and target that use up to 60 images but I’m stuck on wanting to get this target group thing to work.

You can copy/paste my whole page into your FW doc by selecting its name in the site pane on the LH of your screen Edit>copy

Go to your doc and select your site folder in the site pane Copy>paste

Once you have my page in your doc it is simply a matter of importing your own thumbs/pics into the relevant boxes.

You can use the Target show/hide layer action instead if you want the content of these appearing boxes to contain more than just images (or just an image)

I’m trying to use target image

Yes after relooking at the Tutorial I see that it does use that action.

I have never actually used it myself preferring the show/hide ones which I think are easier to use.

There may be an issue with Express users which means they have to use Target Image and the tutorial is aimed at both?

Dave, I’m going to play with the store/hide action and see what I prefer. I had the target image one working perfect but then ran into the 20 image limit.

Your cut/paste idea has some merit. When I first started FW Pro I opened all the free templates there were to see how things were set up and how they worked. When I watched the tutorial I refered to, I really liked that set-up and thats why I went that direction. What I have is 80x70 px thumbnails of products (27-3 rows of 9). I wanted to trigger a larger image when you click on a thumb. I also wanted the thumbnail to turn from color to B&W when selected. As I said I had it working perfectly except for the 20 limit. So, I either have to explore what you’ve shown me with the various image targets, I like that concept a lot, OR go to the rollover60 and target image 60 actions. Both of which I now have loaded.

I wish I was at a point were I knew how to put this online so you could have a look. I think you’d enjoy seeing it. My old Frontpage site is www.stoneycreekdesigns.com

As long as you have the FTP details of your existing site we can help you with that - after you have battened down the hatches!

BTW - you could leave the page with your 27 thumbs as they are and simply copy/paste my big pics onto your page (you can select them all at once)

This will give you 30+ pics with the action already applied

Select each pic box in turn in the site/page inspector and import your pic using Cmd-E then resize to suit.

Change the settings on each to match your thumbnail rollovers and you are good to go.
