The best answer is no, it’s not possible. What they mean there is that the Flash part is customizable. When you download one of the templates you get a file with a FLA extension (amongst others) which is the same as an editable Flash file. This is the part that is customizable.

However, the area that surrounds the Flash area is customizable using FW, but not possible without recreating the whole thing in FW first since the Import HTML feature doesn’t do so hot.

  1. Don’t you have to edit an FLA in Flash? Do they provide some way to edit the file? (I looked at the site just briefly, but now I’m getting constant “Failure to Connect” errors. Not very inspiring of confidence.)

  2. The first time I looked, a template took about 2 minutes to fully load. Of course, any users’ experience will vary depending on their connection and the host’s speeds.

But during the connect time, my status bar said “Done,” as if the page had loaded. (Mostly wrong. Technically correct. My browser had the HTML code downloaded and displayed.) So, any site built entirely in Flash, with no HTML stuff on the page to show up while the template was loading, would look dead while the template loaded. Something to consider.

Right. This is why so much of Flash is taken up with loading
percentage animations of one sort or another. And also why you see so
many “skip intro” links.

It’s also important to note that no they don’t give you a way to edit the Flash file if you don’t have Flash installed and secondly the template previews that load up are often one giant image (or several large ones) with some text on it, but when you get the actual files the images are broken up.

This is prevention at its best to stop people from pirating the templates by just saving it all out and putting it back together.

I believe there is a free template you can download that’ll show you how it’s all setup and such. You might want to sneak a peek there.

I understand that you don’t pirate templates and hopefully I didn’t give anyone any ideas.

You’re welcome for the help.
