text cut off in internet explorer (IE6 & 7)

I know there are similar threads on this topic (or close to it) but none addresses my specific problem - particularly in that this is not just an IE7 issue.

I have a fairly simple layout at http://www.obaatime.com but on one particular page, the text in the centre box is cropped down the right hand side in IE. The page is http://www.obaatime.com/testimonials.html (image here: http://www.obaatime.com/untitled1.html).

I’m using Freeway Express 4 by the way.

Any thoughts most welcome.

Thanks,
David

This may be due to how IE interprets dimensions (Box Model). Try adding some padding to the right side of the box and see if that helps. There are other browser-specific ways to target these kinds of issues but that’s probably overkill for what you need.

Thanks Todd,

I’ve added padding of 10px (all around - not sure how to pad right side only) but this hasn’t stopped the cutting off. Just changes the wrapping so different words are trimmed.

Perhaps I do need a more browser specific solution?

I can’t understand why this isn’t a problem on other pages with a similar layout.

Have your tried adding ‘margin’ to the graphic, rather than padding? (Or are you meaning margin anyway?)

I’ve had problems with I.E. 6 and leading set to percentage… try pixesl or em’s. One or the other, I can’t remember which fixed it???

Todd helped me out with this offline and it ended up being a problem with negative right margins in some of the styles. As you can’t set this (at least not easily) in Freeway Express, I figure the problem goes back to cutting and pasting text from Word. (I could only see these margin settings in View Source for the published page)

The solution was to remove all styles from the text in question (Style > Remove Styling) and reformat. Once that was done, the problem went away - no padding or margin needed.

There is an action called Word Zapper that removes the extraneous stuff that Word adds in but I don’t know if it removes styling info or not.

Personally I copy text from Word into BBEdit and then paste from there to get rid of all that rubbish.
