Normally when showing youtube videos on a website, I use a blank (presized to 560x315) with html markup that calls youtube. I get to this page with a “link to new page” action attached to a graphic. This causes the video to appear in a 560 x 315 window that floats on top of the calling page This seems to work fine.
Now what I want to do is call that video page from text and have it work the same way. How can I do it? There doesn’t seem to be a “text to new page” action. I tried using a regular text hyperlink and adding a “_blank”. This kind of works, but refuses to make the new page 560 x 315, even though I have set that as the new page size. Instead it makes the new page the same size as the calling page.
I suspect there is something really basic that I’m overlooking, but what it is? Here is link to the page:
I thought there was “text link to new window” action. But when I select some text and try to apply it in under Menu > Actions, it doesn’t give me a dialog box and doesn’t apply. I recently upgraded to Pro 10.6.4, I wonder if that might have something to do with it?
Yep, that’s the way it works okay. Now that you point it out to me, page 336 in the reference manual makes more sense. I guess I’ve never used that action before. I’m surprised that it doesn’t let you select existing text (like a hyperlink) and then apply an action to it.
Like all the actions that work this way you add a space character before and after the action item in your run of text. Then select your space-text-space sandwich and apply styling as you would to any other text.
You mean, in the Page Editor, add a space before and after the Action icon, right?
Then select your space-text-space sandwich and apply styling in the Inspector window, right?
Did this, but the text continues to be blue and underlined (denoting a hyperlink). Normally, I can override the color of a hyperlink, but in this case no.
If you want to style a link then you can do it in several places depending on whether you want to affect all the links on your page or just ones within a div.
For page wide styling - with nothing selected on the page look in the inspector. 2nd Tab (paintbrush) and open the Link section. Set your link styles/colours. 1 click on each U will remove the underline but watch the text on your page when you do it in case you click more than once.
You can do the same for a Div - select the Div and repeat the process - this will only affect that Div.
You can also apply the Text Link Style action to a Div and use it instead (not as well as the other methods)
Styling applied at Div level will override styling at page level.
Setting the page link colors in the Inspector panel is a good way to go. It always works as expected.
I’m still curious about this: “. . . select your space-text-space sandwich and apply styling as you would to any other text”. As I mentioned, I haven’t been able to make this work with the “Text Link to New Window” action. Do you know if this issue has been written up someplace where I could read about it? Is it in the ref manual and I missed it?
You have been a real help, and I truly appreciate it.

This is a general rule for an inline action like this one however Links have their own peculiarities as they have a default style - ie blue underline - which you need to over write if you want something different.
