Interesting and thought provoking read.

I think this needs deeper analysis.

We all take the hamburger for granted without really giving the actual user much thought.

My immediate thoughts are to structure the site/nav to create subsets that branch off - with the proviso that you always provide an easy way back (or up).

Exactly. I was taken aback recently when a client who did not have any experience with mobile just did not recognise the 3 bars actually meant anything at all.

If the hamburger menu is allowed plenty of space and not crowded with other items closeby it helps. The above brought it home that for mission critical work you need more thought.

Perhaps the bars should be surrounded with a button shape.

Hi guys,

good aspects here but one thing to mention:

I’m not living in this area and I never saw such an animal live but I suspect that this might be something dangerous. So when I do something, I expect people to think and deal with a new situation (even a new icon or new page appearance).

But now for something completely different (or fits into it perfectly fine):

I recently stumbled upon:

Beneath the fact, that we can’t use it in Freeway out-of-the-box, it has some interesting aspects. Toggle between the “well-known” and the “pretty-new” can be user’s choice and not designer’s - or in other words, it is pretty responsible, isn’t it.

Perhaps adding this link, just to complete the talk with other aspects:
