I just registered for a JavaScript conference in Washington DC, and
the organizers used a new (to me) system to handle the ticketing. I
thought it was quite nice, and the thing that struck me most was their
business model. Rather than taking a percentage of the ticket price or
charging a massive fee to sign up, they take one US dollar, Euro, or
GB pound per ticket sold, depending on the currency you choose to
charge your customers. (If you use a different currency than those
three, they charge you one dollar.) Tickets are delivered by e-mail,
and have unique bar-codes for authentication. The company that built
it is in Madrid, but the service site is bilingual.
Worth a look if you’re building a site that sells tickets for real-
world events.
