If I put their link on my site is there any way to tell if people are going from my site to theirs?
Now, I want to clarify - I know that I asked something like this a few months ago. But Just to track a person ( no need for name etc like originally asked) if they click on a link. to an outside site.
You can spot this by looking for the referring site in your server
logs or analytics program. If you use Google Analytics, they track who
came from where. Note that this only works in the precise case you
mentioned – someone clicks on a link on your page which links to
their page. The page that carried the link is called the referrer
(actually mis-spelled referer in the spec).

Ok so we can see that someone clicks on a link in our site to another site through our google analytics. Great!
Do we need to set something up in analytics for that.
Thank you

Not quite, they can see if your site sent a lot of visitors to them.
And it’s pretty much basically there without anything needing to be
set up. The outbound link tracking business (you knowing how many
people have left your site for their site) is considerably fussier to
set up.

So can we see if someone clicks on a link on our site to another?

No, the opposite. If someone on another site makes a link on their
page to you, and their visitors start clicking on that link in record
numbers, your analytics package will notice that.
Conversely, if you make a link to another site, and you have a lot of
visitors and they all click that link, then the owner of the other
site will be around with a crate of something nice once they look at
their numbers.
But if you want to see how many of your visitors on your site are
linking away to another site, you will need to set up outbound link
tracking, which I have found to be a painful and frustrating
experience with Google Analytics.

The trouble is that if you look – even on Google’s site – you’ll
find at least three different ways to do it, and it’s not clear which
one will work with the current version of the GA Action. And GA has
such a lag on it that you make a change, then wait a couple of days to
see if it worked, then change again, etc. All with the client looking
over my shoulder and asking when…?

Ok. That makes sence. The nice thing about this client is the site is up functioning well, and he is my neighbor. He also has me doing another project that will take his mind off of it lol.
Looking at what Dave posted… How do you put the JavaScript in one
Of
Our pages?
Thank you so much Walter

I’m a bit late to the conversation. I use Clicky for my traffic analytics - http://getclicky.com/ and use a small bit of code in the external markup of the outbound links I want to track.
LOL Thank you. so it is easy to activate in a FW site?

When you create your hyperlink select the Extended option and then in the Extended Attributes window select New. Enter in the Name field “onclick” without the quotation marks and then in the Value field enter “clicky.log( this.href, this.innerHTML, ‘outbound’ );” once again without the quotation marks.
I’m using one of Clicky’s paid plans as I’m tracking multiple sites
