Transmit 4

Is anyone else anxious for this?

I’m not anxious about it, but I’m curious as to what they’ll add as far as features. Panic is a good bunch.

I must say that I am a Transmit/Panic fan - not so far as stalking but I am v interested to see what could be added.

It’s out, and it’s pretty sweet. I haven’t even tried any file transfers yet, but I already really like it. The new interface is really, really nice.

Woah… That unlock Transmit button in the confirming email gives me pause. Scary.

Scary? Funny, I thought it was pretty cool.

Well… yeah it is, but the fact you can find an application and modify it from an email has scary possibilities. Good thing Panic is trustworthy… right?

This is a feature of the Mac OS – you can talk to registered URL
handlers. So if you are a developer, and you register your URL
handlers with the OS at first application launch, any case where one
of those handlers is called through a URL will mean that your
application will respond.

I like it for the Disk Mounting capabilities so I can use Freeway’s File Copy method instead of FTP. It transfers really fast which is great.

Dan, that’s a great tip, thanks. The Mount as Disk feature is a really great addition and worth the $19 upgrade in itself.

What exactly is the benefits of the Mount Disc option?

I must be a little dense today…

That really depends on your workflow.

One benefit being that you can mount the disk/server on your Desktop without opening Transmit at all - done from the Finder Menu - and then drag/drop your files.

Been a busy week…

Thanks.

And, if your server uses SFTP, this will allow you to use Freeway to
update it. Simply mount the disk, then use File Copy in Freeway
instead of creaky-old insecure FTP.

I was originally using ExpanDrive to do the same thing and now I don’t have too.

When I used File Copy on the Transmit disk image it copied all files. Is there a way to update just revised files?

Thanks,
Jacob

Move one thing one pixel on one page, and see if it does it again. I
don’t think that it will. Each upload method needs one starting
publish to establish the “fingerprint” of the remote server. (Which in
this case is entirely different from any previous upload using, say,
FTP.)

Okay, now that I’ve used it a couple of times, I have a couple of minor gripes. They aren’t huge, and the fact is, I may be missing something.

  1. It used to be that command-D would disconnect from the remote server. Now, there’s only the Eject button that I didn’t realize was even there until I read the help. On top of that, I’m not convinced the Eject actually disconnects. If you disconnect, and then reconnect, the reconnect looks like it’s just switching back.

  2. The synchronize feature seems to have given us too much control. Before, it used to work well on its own. Now, it asks what criteria to use to synchronize, file size or date. Sometimes, files get weird dates on the server that are later than the creation date. When you want to replace files from a package like phpBB and the package’s dates are earlier than the dates on the server, Transmit 4 just skips them. I’m pretty sure the old version did what I wanted, though I could be wrong.

Again, these aren’t huge, and overall, I’m pleased with the upgrade.

Yep, that threw me at first also. It’s very small.
