Old, vexed question I know, but does Intaglio offer an easy solution to the removal of white backgrounds from commercial clip-art such as “Art Explosion”?
If the clip art is in a vector format such as Illustrator, eps or pdf, import it and go to Object>‘Ungroup’. If the clip art is covered by a translucent grey overlay, delete it. The clip art should now be on a transparent background.
If the clip art is in a bitmap format, go to Object>Blend>Darken. This makes everything transparent.
If neither of the above apply, draw a path around the object, Group both objects and in the Group palette, select ‘Standard’.
The TIFF and EPS files on the Art Explosion samplers (free on novadevelopment.com) opened in Intaglio and Preview. EPS files could be edited in Intaglio.
Another way of hiding backgrounds is to draw a path around the part of the image that you want to retain, fill it with white and Send to Back. Select the TIFF and choose the Darken blend mode to make it translucent. Then align the centres. The white shape shows through the TIFF, but obscures the background colour or image.
