Trouble with Charcoal Template

Hello, I am new to FW and I am using the Charcoal template to build my site. So far so good! But I am having trouble with the menu on the left. I would like to replace “Twitter, Facebook” etc with my own categories but keep the same formatting but am having difficulty doing so. Thanks in advance for any advice (and sorry in advance if I am posting in incorrect area.)

Hi Lauren and welcome to FWT - and yes this should really be in the FreewayTalk section.

This section (Dynamo) is really for Database type problems and those relating to PHP and MySql - and as a result is far less well crawled than others.

But to answer your question - if you want to change something like this which appears on every page then you have to do it on the Master page.

So go to the Master and change the text there first.

Once you have done that then go back to your actual pages. If you click on the HTML container that the Twitter etc links are in and then look in the inspector you will see under the first Tab - Item General Settings - 2 check boxes Use Master Content and Use Master Settings. These may or may not be checked. The first - Use Master Content - determines what is in the box on your page. So if you changed twitter etc on the Master you would then want this checked so these changes would appear on the actual page.

Similarly the second - Use Master Settings - determines the positioning and characteristics of that box so if you have moved it on the Master and want that change to be reflected on the actual page you would check it too.
