Tutorial request for Intaglio

Hi,
Heard Nick (the developer of Intaglio) say something about improved future tutorials for the new version of the app, which is great!

BTW; here is the url (about a third into the broadcast): Nick Nallick, Intaglio developer on CocoaRadio : Blake Burris : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

What would be just fine are a few tutorials on video to see how things can be done and for a beginner to get an idea of the depth / wealth of the application, which I’m sure is there, but which is difficult to unearth!

I can do simple buttons, but want to improve.

Just a thought - bw, Omar K N

Regarding the current status of Intaglio:

  1. I have been using Intaglio since early 2003.
Its compatibility with ClarisDraw solved many problems for me, and I am grateful that such program came about (in the meanwhile a few other programs have also included backwards compatibility with MacDraw, ClarisDraw,…).

  2. Nick has always been very responsive in providing tech support.

  3. It has been great to have all the upgrades for free, while others ask for upgrade fees when there is an important new release of the application.

Having said that, I think it is fair to say the following:

  1. The development of Intaglio seems to have slowed down tremendously, or even abandoned. This is “objective reality”, not a matter of perception.
This is a shame, as comparable programs seem to have kept their speed. This is especially aggravating when the last versions available have several weaknesses (bugs and certain features not very well implemented).

  2. If the main issue is that Intaglio is not (or no longer) generating revenue that justifies its development, then why not ask for an upgrade fee for a major new release? I would be certainly willing to pay a reasonable upgrade fee, and I suspect most of Intaglio users would think the same way.
Furthermore, as Apple’s sales increase, and market share of the PC market increases, there is continuous increase in the number of users, many (most?) new to the Mac platform, which makes them all candidates to be customers of application such as Intaglio.

  3. The continued development of Intaglio does not mean “feature inflation”, but rather update/upgrade the program for the new technologies/APIs, and bug fixes in APIs, being made available by Apple in 10.6, and that are very relevant to drawing/illustration/CAD programs. Also, it has been commented many times in this forum how Intaglio has some very powerful features that are difficult to use or hidden, or require workarounds, etc. This would definitely be in the class of things to improve in future releases. This along with improvements in user interface to make it possible for non-expert users to take advantage of the power of the program.

  4. The slow down in the development of Intaglio might be related to personal and/or health problems of the developer. So, this situation, might or might not change in the near future. I hope Nick can surprise us all with a great new release soon (4.0?) incorporating all the goodies allowed by OS X 10.6!

For those that have been mentioning Nick’s radio interview, it is worth noting that it is from 2006 … and therefore bearing no relevance to the current situation.

Just my 2 cents.

Glad you posted it here,

anyway some of what you wrote had a bearing on my request for video-tutorials!
