Undercover Software

I realize there’s no perfect solution to a theft scenario but that being
said, thoughts on this,

It sounds interesting in some respects but there’s also a Big Brother
feel to it which makes me twitchy.

If I had a laptop I would buy Undercover in a Flash and I dont think there are any issues about looking after what is yours.

Now if I installed it on my child’s laptop without them knowing - that is a different story.

Local New here recently had a spot about a women that had an iPhone stolen. She remotely uploaded the photos the thieves were jubiously taking of themselves and police used those in the recovery and arrest.

Undercover really takes it to another level. I have used LoJack for a few years (I think the cut rate version ˜$25), never have been happy with the ‘tracer’ feature in the software. My laptop shows up miles from where I am and FindMyMac shows me (correctly). Maybe this will boost the competition.

Have any of you purchased business or homeowner insurance to cover theft of
your computers?

I found it to be almost ridiculously inexpensive. I pay ~ $500 a year to cover umpty thousand dollars of servers, computers, cameras, and lighting equipment, as well as business liability and data loss coverage. I had a client (Comedy Central) require the business liability part, and so I went shopping. I was startled at what I found – I thought it would be much more than that.
