How can I use tabs when laying out text please? Currently usiung tabs simply does not effect the way the text looks when previewed or published. Am I just being a dork?
Cheers,
If you just want a section of multiple spaces (i.e.: tab = 4 spaces), you can simply use the keystroke ‘Option Space’ while typing.
Normally, html text will only ever show just one space. So if in FW, you type 12 spaces in a flow of text (underscores represent spaces):
word one_____________word two
it will only ever display as:
word one_word two
The option-space trick forces a “ ” (Non-Breaking SPace) which browsers do respect and will maintain the exaggerated spacing.
This does not have the same ‘features’ as a true Tab alignment system like in word processing apps. But, it is a quick way to add space without having to make/maintain a specific style.
It should really only be used where you really want the extra space, as it has some repercussions on text flow. Think of them as invisible characters instead of spaces. Browsers will see the example above with the option-spaces as effectively one long word (‘word oneXXXXXXXword two’), and not wrap text on the option-spaces.
If you were looking to use tabs to align text entries you can use a table to
bring all into desired alignment - it doesn’t have to be visible.

Hi David
You need ‘indent’
This allows a run or selection of text to be indented from a certain point,
similar to a tab.
You can set this up in the styles menu or apply it ad-hock in the inspector
palette.
