very wide page with subdivisions

Hello!

Is it possible to achieve this in FW?
http://glasshouse.co.za/html.php#home

I think we can set the width of a page very wide and them we could use anchors with the menu buttons to move to right and left (I think), but if you see the browser, it changes the page name…interesting…

Please let me know
Regards,

Marcus

when you click on the menu buttons the page moves horizontally to reach the desired space…

it changes the page name…

The page name is html.php - this doesn’t actually change but adds an anchor link on the end html.php#portfolio - so you are still on the same page html.php

This could be done with Walter’s Carousel - no need for a very wide page.

Thank You, David!

By the way the images look like a continuous image on this example I really thought it would be only one wide page, but there’s no horizontal scroll bar . Can Walter’s Carousel make it look like a whole continuous image too? I guess it depends how I design right?

Thanks again, David

Yes. If you make your image in segments, and place each segment in a
same-sized HTML box, you won’t see any gap between the segments and
the effect will appear as if it was one single image.

Hi Walter! Got it! That’s nice to know
The only thing that worries me a bit is that for Google it will look like just 1 page to be indexed and could affect the rank a bit, right?

Thanks,
Marcus

That depends. Do you have content that varies wildly in subject
matter? IF so, then you will get better results from placing each
topic on a separate page. But if you’re just expanding on one topic,
then no, a large page with lots of information is probably going to
mean just as much as several smaller pages with the same information
split up. Possibly there’s a minor benefit to that one large page.

Thasnk You, David.

You’re right. There’s not a lot of information on this case, just expanding the same topic.
The Carousel action works in IE also, right?

Thanks again,

Marcus

Yes, although there are reports that if you zoom the fonts in IE, the
layout breaks up. But then the layout of any page would break up in IE
under those circumstances. Come to think of it, IE users are well and
truly snowed into thinking that the Web looks bad, and don’t really
understand why everyone else goes on about it the way they do…

And if it is just a page of images then SEO optimisation of file names and alt tags is very important as there is going to be very little other text for the bots to consider.

Hello guys, one more question that came to my mind:

Let me try to explain it. In a regular website with different pages you have different landing pages such as “home”, “about”, “contact”, “etc” as they appear in Google, so people can go to your page using different doors.

On the case of the only one page with the Carousel effect to switch the subjects is there a way to add these segments as landing pages, so people can go directly to it?

best,

Marcus

Sure. Make a note of the names that Freeway has assigned each of the panes in your carousel. For better search mojo, make these better names, like ‘contact’, ‘products’, etc., using the Title field in the Inspector.

Now, make manual links to these pages where you want to send someone to a particular pane using a querystring:

http://example.com/index.html?contact

The page will load, then the carousel will animate over to the desired pane.

Great! Thanks Walter!

Could these panels by any chance also be indexed by Google as different landing pages?

thanks,

No, Google ignores anything beyond the end of the URL, so querystring and hash are ignored in terms of being different pages.

Ok,

That’s what I thought…
But anyway I’ll give this idea a go! It will look great. Its for a company that repairs and installs sliding doors, so the Carousel will fit perfectly on the concept…

Thanks Walter!

Walter,

I really thank you for your patient to answer all the questions, but I just have another one and I thank you in advance:

Considering I’ll built this page using the Carousel action, is this possible to have in one of the panels for example a feedback form, in another panel a photo gallery (maybe another carousel inside, or a showcase?

Yes

Certainly a showcase - I don’t think you can have a Carousel within a Carousel though.

Very quick example here http://www.deltadesign.co/examples/carousel.html

Not tested in anything but Safari and not set to autoglide which would play havoc with filling in a form
