Video playing / scripty accordian

Good afternoon all.

I am doing a very basic 1 page
Site for a high school gymnest.

I have been told there are 2 issues:

  1. When going into the site, sometimes the scripty accoridan is open
    and sometimes not.
  2. The video player sometimes aloes
Them to play the video (mp4) and
    Sometimes not.

In addition, the woman woul like people to be able
To get full screen video instead of that litle box.

The layout is how she wants it … I am going to snap it later…

Thank you for your prompt help. I am on the road going to NYC and I
need to fix it when
I get there. You guys are great!

Julie

By ‘snap it’ do you mean you’re going to do grid-based alignment later?

Julie, seriously, consideration of position and alignment should be a
fundamental part of the initial layout work, NOT something tagged on
at the end of the project. This approach is how to fail design 101.

Rather than use QuickTime, why not use a Flash video service such as
YouTube, Vimeo or similar. That provides full-screen viewing options
as a matter of course.

Also, “U-tube” (see the text on your page) is actually spelled “YouTube”.

Julie, I might have been a client. And I wouldn’t care what you did or didn’t catch, I’d just run away.

I really need help w te video problem.

Okay - the QuickTime movie on that page is approximately 77MB, which
is at least 15 to 20 times too big for regular web delivery.

Don’t fret, this is what YouTube is really good for. Sign up for an
account and upload the video, then you’ll be able to show that
YouTube video right in your Freeway page. And it’ll have a
full-screen option as standard.

Start by getting yourself a YouTube account and then uploading your
video there. Then give us a shot.

Your video has the file name NICOLE_RADON.Title1.mp4

This is probably not helping - take out the extra full stops and make it something like NICOLE_RADON_Title1.mp4

But also I am not sure that an mp4 is the best sort of file type to use for Windows users. As Keith suggested why not use Flash

I am not sure that an mp4 is the best sort of file type to use for
Windows users.

Also the .mp4 file is WAY too big. 77.8MB too big. Uploading to a
Flash-based video service (YouTube, Vimeo etc.) will deal with that.

It’s hard to say what I’d recommend in terms of video services. If you use YouTube the quality of the video is going to be bad, unless you can output in HD and try that.

I did try Vimeo the other day in hopes of using it on my site for previews, but low and behold your video has to sit in a conversion queue (so far mine is 3 days and 6 hours and it’ll be ready for a 7mb clip) and I’ve even canceled, converted to FLV format, and still a longer wait. It’s almost stupid, to be honest. I’ve seen people post items on Blip.tv, that’s my next turn, but it would be easier to load it off someone elses bandwidth, so if your client can stand YouTube, then probably go with that.

There’s a lot of harsh comments in this thread, but hopefully Julie has found a solution that works.

about how to go from there.

One other option you might look at is your own conversion software.
Take a peek at:

I’ve noted a number of you creations use video clips, so from just
$29 for the basic level, it could be a worthwhile investment and it is
easy to use for conversion to a Flash format.
