Hi Cyclonist…
Teh answer is not at the moment, OBD are working on a new webyep item that will be able to upload media like flash, though I have no idea when that will be. There are ways around it but it does mean a lot of work and no guarantees.

The only way that I have managed to do it is using the rich-text, Then you need to adjust the Tiny MCE editor within the webyep system, so you can see more buttons including quicktime / then you have to buy a plug-in from Tiny MCE to allow you to upload files which costs around 50 pounds. After that you need to go back to the script within the webyep system and add specific code to allow for the new plug-in to work within the webyep environment. and finally add the plugin itself inside the plugin folder within the tinyMCE folder which is in the
OPT folder.
The net result of all this is you willl now have a new button that allows you to place video etc within a webyep richtext block.

It’s not easy and unless you have a specific reason to do this right away you may want wait until OBD bring out there own simple action.

You could always drop them an email to see how they are getting on with this future feature

Hi Cyclonist,
You can easily upload swf video using the WebYep richtext element if you change your editor to FCKEditor:

I don’t use Tiny MCE anymore as FCKEditor has more features including a build in file browser and it’s free!

There is also a free plugin for the FCKEditor called “fckEmbedMovies” for other video types such as QT movies but I haven’t figured how to install it properly yet - anyone know how?

Here is page I knocked up with a simple swf I uploaded via the FCKEditor flash upload:

http://www.pixelarte.co.uk/videotest/index.php

Hope this helps,

Sounds really good. Selecting the proper download and components as well as the installation, seem a bit daunting for a novice. It might be simple but it doesn’t look simple. Can you offer some guidelines; especially for use with WebYep? They would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the tip,
Jacob

Hi Jacob,
As I said I haven’t figured out how to get the “fckEmbedMovies” plugin to work yet. Flash movie upload however is already implemented in FCKEditor so you don’t have to do anything other than install the editor. To install FCKEditor do the following:

  1. Go to the 'webyep-system" folder that you have installed on your server
  2. Then go to the “program” folder
  3. Inside the “program” folder go into the “opt” folder
  4. Inside the the “opt” folder you should see your current editor folder e.g. “tinymce” or “rte”. either delete or rename the folder. WebYep can only use one editor at a time.
  5. Download FCKEditor from www.fckeditor.net unzip the file and copy the entire folder into the “opt” folder.
  6. The next time you access a WebYep richtext element on your webpage it should automatically open FCKEditor.
  7. You should see the import Flash movie icon on the toolbar menu.

Hope this helps,

Richard

Which version of the editor? FCKeditor.Net 2.6.3, FCKeditor.Java 2.4, or FCKeditor 2.6.2?

Thanks,

Hi Jacob,
I’m using the standard FCKeditor 2.5 which works fine. Though there is a newer version now 2.6.3 which is probably the better choice due to bug fixes etc.

Hi Joerg,
As I said previously the free plugin “fckEmbedMovies” would let you upload QT movies, but I can’t figure how to install it properly, so I am still interested if anyone knows how to do this.

This is the info that came with the plugin:

for instal add this in fckconfig.js:

FCKConfig.Plugins.Add( ‘fckEmbedMovies’) ;

in the menu:
['EmbedMovies´]

modify fckplugin.js:
// Register the related commands.
FCKCommands.RegisterCommand(
‘EmbedMovies’,
new FCKDialogCommand(
‘EmbedMovies’,
FCKLang[“EmbedMoviesDlgTitle”],
FCKPlugins.Items[‘fckEmbedMovies’].Path + ‘fck_embedmovies.html’,
450,
370
)
);
// Create the “EmbedMovies” toolbar button.
// FCKToolbarButton( commandName, label, tooltip, style, sourceView,
contextSensitive )
var oEmbedMoviesItem = new FCKToolbarButton( ‘EmbedMovies’,
FCKLang[“EmbedMoviesBtn”], FCKLang[“EmbedMoviesTooltip”], null, false, true
);
oEmbedMoviesItem.IconPath = FCKConfig.PluginsPath +
‘fckEmbedMovies/embedmovies.gif’;

// ‘EmbedMovies’ is the name that is used in the toolbar config.
FCKToolbarItems.RegisterItem( ‘EmbedMovies’, oEmbedMoviesItem );

Thought I better have a look at FCKeditor seeing as its supported.

Well apart from the look/colour of the standard skin (gives the impression that its on 40 fags a day)…I am really impressed. On first impressions it’s faster than TinyMCE to load it does support flash and image uploads without the need to buy an extra plugin and activating that part was easy peasey lemon squeezey compared to TinyMCE.

I haven’t look at adding the movie plug-in but if I get a chance I shall look today.
The only downside so far is it’s not recognising the extra style sheet. So I will see why that is too

Max,

That’s the only downside to using FCKeditor.

I too haven’t been able to get it to recognise extra style sheets either, so I would be very interested to see how you get on.

Well after much messing about trying to get FCK to recognise see or eevn acknoloige the extar style sheet I have come to the conclusion… ITS NOT VERY SIMPLE!!!
first things first…

  1. I haven’t been successful in getting any extra plugins to work…so thats a shame
  2. I haven’t been successful in getting the style sheet to work either… not good

If people want to take this on then be my guessed… the main area’s files you have to change are

fckconfig.js

fckstyles.xml

and

fck_editorarea.css

I have managed to get rid of the standard styles like big text, but as far as linking my own style sheet then I have given up.

So for the moment until some one can figure FCKedit out then my advice is… if you want your own styles then use TinyMCE and if you want Flash and image simple upload management for free use FCKeditor.

now I am off to do some proper work… :o)

Hi Max,
I never bothered trying using the Freeway stylesheet I just altered the “fckstyles.xml” . Here is an example I used to limit the client to just 5 styles:

-->

<Style name="Panache Pink" element="span">
<Attribute name="style" value="color:#f16377; font-family:Trebuchet MS,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-weight:normal; font-size:14px"/>
</Style>
<Style name="Panache Small" element="span">
<Attribute name="style" value="color:#333333; font-family:Trebuchet MS,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:10px"/>
</Style>
<Style name="Panache Medium" element="span">
<Attribute name="style" value="color:#333333; font-family:Trebuchet MS,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:12px"/>
</Style>
<Style name="Panache Normal" element="span">
<Attribute name="style" value="color:#333333; font-family:Trebuchet MS,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:14px"/>
</Style>
<Style name="Panache Large" element="span">
<Attribute name="style" value="color:#333333; font-family:Trebuchet MS,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:18px"/>
</Style>

Editing the “fckconfig.js” file I also altered the text colour palette to a limited range of 8 colours and the text sizes to 9 in total from 10pt to 50pt:

FCKConfig.EnableMoreFontColors = true ;
//FCKConfig.FontColors = ‘000000,993300,333300,003300,003366,000080,333399,333333,800000,FF6600,808000,808080,008080,0000FF,666699,808080,FF0000,FF9900,99CC00,339966,33CCCC,3366FF,800080,999999,FF00FF,FFCC00,FFFF00,00FF00,00FFFF,00CCFF,993366,C0C0C0,FF99CC,FFCC99,FFFF99,CCFFCC,CCFFFF,99CCFF,CC99FF,FFFFFF’ ;
FCKConfig.FontColors = ‘F16377,E0A5B5,C7A36F,000066,59493b,00b1b0,990066,3366cc’ ;

FCKConfig.FontFormats = ‘p;h1;h2;h3;h4;h5;h6;pre;address;div’ ;
FCKConfig.FontNames = ‘Trebuchet MS;Verdana;Arial;Tahoma;Times New Roman;’ ;
FCKConfig.FontSizes = ‘10pt;12pt;14pt;16pt;18pt;20pt;30pt;40pt;50pt’ ;

I have found this works ok in restricting the client to certain styles, colours and sizes.

Hi Richard yes I did have look at the xml and I did start to change them and then thought it was to much effort. most people wont want to get that involved in writing style sheets by hand so I gave up too

anyway it’s nice to know some one has been successful to some sort of degree

Hello, I have a question:

I’ve read up in this thread back in 2009 that they were working on a new webyep item that would be able to upload media like flash, etc. I have a client who wants CMS on his site and the ability to change not just text, but also upload new photos, mp3 and mp4 videos. Is web yep now capable of doing this or I have to look for something else?

thanks,

Marcus

Hi Marcus different forms of media like video. can be uploaded via the rich text k=like TinyMCE’s extra plugin called image manger this allows you to upload images, video, as well as mp3 and flash.
Alternatively your client could upload to a vimeo or youtube account and reference that within WebYep. I do have a very quick tutorial on how to do that if thats of any use

Max, forgive my ignorance…but this question may be too simple:
Is the TinyMCE an extra plugin you add to WebYep or its a alternative to it?

I once saw that Dan Jasker had many tutorial videos for WebYep but I postponed many times and never got them. Now it’s late because to get these videos

I haven’t purchase the Webyep yet but will do it soon. Do you believe that one can install WebYep without these tutorial videos?
