I’ve used Adobe TypeKit for a while now, but I’m just starting to dive into Google fonts. Was curious to see what FWP users favorite Google fonts were.
There are some very nice fonts at Google Fonts-- I value character, whitespace, and readability. But I tend to use them in pairs and combinations, so it’s how they work together that I find important.
I can’t say that I have any favorite fonts, but here are a few that I’ve put a lot of mileage on:
Open Sans
Source family (Source Sans Pro, Source Serif Pro, and Source Code Pro; which is also my default code-editing font)
Merriweather family (Merriweather and Merriweather Sans)
Lato
Vollkorn
Roboto family (Roboto Slab and Roboto)
Oxygen (not a very complete font, but it looks nice)
Old Standard TT
Muli
Lora
Crimson Text
Alegreya family (Alegreya, Alegreya Sans, and their small caps variants)
One of my most favorite free sans is Clear Sans by Adobe. It’s not on Google Fonts, so you’ll have to host it yourself, but it’s very readable and yet rarely seen in the wild. I use it at http://calebgrove.com
