What is a Designer

Another star by Mike Monteiro: What Is a Designer?. An excerpt from Design Is a Job | by Mike Monteiro | Medium

I know that I’m going to step on some toes here, but I’ve always been irritated by web designers who eschew learning code because it will “compromise their creativity”. As I see it, my job as a designer (and more fundamentally as a human) is to improve the lives of the people around me. In order to do that, design has to be deliberate and backed by goals and numbers. The designer must know the medium, the client, and the end-user like the back of their hand. Creativity and off-the-wall concepts are still critical, but they must be subservient to the overall goals of the project.
