the master page (I only have one master page currently) has a graphic rectangle with rounded corners framing the page. If you go to the Development Pages menu and select Experiments 2, you’ll see a page based on that master with four pictures in the middle. Working with the page in FWPro, I can click on any of the pictures and they’re selected. But, if I want to draw a marquee around them, as soon as I click and begin dragging, the entire background, that is the rectangle, moves. I sent the rectangle to the back, and I’m sure it’s not in front because I can click on an individual picture and select it.
I’ve had other problems with this rectangle before and the FreewayTalk members have helped me. But I just don’t understand why this is happening. What also puzzles me is that I would assume that in agreement with most program practices, if the rectangle were really sent to the back where there was no place left for it to go backwards anymore, that “send to the back” choice would be dimmed in the Items menu, but it never is.
That then brings me to another question: isn’t there any way in Freeway to draw a rectangle or even a straight line without drawing a graphic box? If there is, I haven’t been able to find it. I hope that’s not too dumb of a question because of obvious reasons I can’t see.
Bob:
Using your suggestion, I was able to make a line using a long skinny box. Thanks.
For the select/move problem, I locked the item as you suggested and, of course, it doesn’t move. But I still can’t draw a marquee. When I depress the mouse button and drag, the cursor moves, but I get no marquee dashed line. I know that I’ve done it in the past, so I still think that it might have something to do with the item’s position. If I double click within the rectangle, it acts normal, that is, it turns white and the cursor appears. But I just don’t understand why when I click once and drag I don’t get any marquee.
Anyone have any ideas about what I might have messed up here?
Thanks,
Martin

Well, I’ll see if I can help with one or two of those.
You can always lock and item so you don’t select it. Select the item, go up to Item and select Lock.
If you double click in a box you can insert a Rule if you need a line. Or make a long skinny box.
Rather than having your rectangle as a graphic on the page you could add it as a Page background image - this takes it out of the selecting equation totally…
With nothing selected on the page choose the Paintbrush icon in the inspector. Select your bg image using the image selector/locator and set it to Horizontal:Center and Vertical:Top
There are limitations to this in that if you have a page that is taller than your bg image then the content will appear to flow out of the bottom.
This will be a fantastic help, David. Thanks so much for the suggestion and lead. I really appreciate it.
