Wonky website

Hiya,

I finally finished our company web site thanks in no small part to the excellent support of this forum

Having now viewed it in IE on my office PC the front page looks a bit off. There is some slight movement of graphics and the links at the very bottom of the page have shifted down. This all looks fine in safari (but not safari on my ipad!). I have now tried some mac browsers like Firefox and I can see the issues there too.

Also, in IE, i noticed that the scriptyfader images are showing some sort of black aliasing as the appear.

The site is http://shapecutters.co.uk

Many thanks

nige.

You will see the same problems using Safari.

Go to Safari’s View menu and down to and select Zoom Text only. If you know Apple+ a couple of times you will see your text grow outside the boxes.

You could try the RPL action or alternatively construct your page using an inline (box model) method.

Not sure about the image/AA problem.

Hi,

Thanks. I applied the RPL action at the beginning to my master page but it soon started to give me error messages when previewing. I’m not sure why. I have tried to add it retrospectively, but again it creates errors. Are the html boxes moving the graphics in this instance too?

thanks

nige.

To use RPL you will need to make sure that all items are Layers. You can also use the Remove from RPL action on items that you do not want to be included.

Hiya,

Thanks Dave, I’ve managed to apply the action to my home page. However quite a number of items are now quite a way out of position. Is there a way to fix these items? Sorry for being a pain on this one!

Many thanks

nige.

Hi,

OK, I fixed it. I needed to group overlapping graphic boxes

Thanks again.

Not sure if you have uploaded or not but the web version still falls apart when you enlarge the text.

Hiya,

Seems to be OK??? I’ve checked in EI, Safari and Chrome today. There is a bit of text overspill on the home page on one of the text boxes that wasn’t present in my Safari preiview though.

I’m still stuck on the poor graphics on the scriptyfaber action. The graphics are png with millions of colors so the alpha chanel should be OK, but it does look very ugly in EI.

Thanks

nige.

Any particular reason you are using PNGs?

I think that I would use layers to keep text HTML and SEO friendly and construct the slideshow using either ScriptyFader or Target Show/Hide Layer in conjunction with Sequence Timer.

I would also keep my page size/image file size smaller by using jpeg. It may be that IE doesn’t like your PNGs

Hiya,

I started off using png as the images had transparent areas. I have recreated them with a background so they could be jpegs now I guess. The slideshow is scriptyfader and all the text is html, apart from the quote on the front page. All the items on the front page are layers and I have added the RPL action. I need to go through the site and apply this to all of the pages.

thanks

Hi,

Yes true, i’d forgotten about them! These are part of the images as the use the ariel font; I wasn’t sure how ‘web safe’ they were.

Your going to have to use Remove from RPL on your slideshow - if you haven’t already - as 2 SF images are appearing at once and screwing with your layout.

PS If you want the PHPFF action to work properly on your Contact page then you will need to name the ‘name’ and ‘email address’ fields correctly.

Select the input box and look in the 3rd tab in the inspector. Name: boxes should be filled with ‘name’ and ‘email’ (without quotes) as these have special significance when the php processing is done.

http://www.freewayactions.com/product.php?id=019 Read the section on Special Names.
