Working from Dropbox

I believe that if I save my Freeway projects to Dropbox I can then access them from my desktop iMac or Macbook when travelling. Is this OK?
How about the resources? Do both the iMac and Macbook then need to have the original files?

Hi Graham,
If you set up DropBox on both machines to sync to a local folder on the Mac then when you open a Freeway document on one machine and alter the content DropBox will automatically sync this to your other Mac. As long as you don’t attempt to update both copies at the same time you should be OK working this way.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Tim. Thanks.

Still a little confused about the original image files etc.

If I open the Freeway file on my MacBook Pro when travelling won’t the resources be missing (the original files being on my iMac).

I’ve had success sharing the updating duites of a Freeway site with another person using Drop Box. But we’ve had to be very careful to have a media and resource on our shared drop box folder. Also have had to make sure that any actions we might use on the site are in both of our copies of Freeway.

I have a setup like what you are describing. You can’t just sync a project
folder unless ALL the resources you need are IN that folder. This possibly
means changing the way you work, keeping tighter control of your resources.

Hi Graham,
Creating an archive of your site before you copy it into the DropBox folder will ensure that all of the images get synced. Just make sure that any new ones are also added to the Media folder before you use them in your site or the other Mac won’t be able to ‘see’ them and will start complaining.
It may be worth making an alias of your Actions folder and drop this in your DropBox folder too so that both Macs are using the same Actions and versions.
Regards,
Tim.

I have been working on a website that is saved in Dropbox for some months now and find that it is okay, except that you must ensure that you keep a version on your own or usual hard drive as on occasions files do go missing. It’s a good idea to save the FW back up version as well.
