We have just released Xway 1.1, which is a significant update to previous versions of Xway.
New features
For more information, and a more complete list, see the New Features appendix at the end of the Xway User Guide. This contains cross-references to documentation.
- Media styles (breakpoints).
- Xway can download and install new or updated templates (see below).
- Text import.
- The Tidy command can be used to tidy text.
- WebP graphics.
- Smooth Scrolling.
- Permanent resources are always published.
Improvements
- Uploading is significantly faster for most servers. We’ve also made improvements to the Upload dialog.
- PHP can be used in page titles.
- Xway remembers the size of resizable modal windows/sheets.
- Folder locations for importing different forms of content are saved in user preferences, so they’re available in new documents as well as in existing documents.
- Files and folders in the Don’t delete section of the Upload dialog are sorted alphabetically.
- We’ve renamed the Extended Attributes sections of the Inspector panel as Extended HTML Attributes to emphasize that these are used for setting HTML attributes rather than CSS properties.
How to update
This is a free update for Xway 1.0 users. You can update by choosing Check for Updates from the Xway application menu.
Purchasing
If you do not already own Xway, you can purchase it from our website. Xway costs $39 (£29, €35).
If you have a Freeway serial number, you can upgrade for $19 (£14, €17).
Trial version
Xway is also available as a 30-day trial version. This can be converted into a full version by clicking on Buy Now in the “Thank you for trying Xway” dialog.
User guide
Xway comes with a detailed reference manual, which you can access by choosing Xway User Guide from the Xway Help menu. This also includes an appendix with a list of new features and cross-references to documentation in the user guide — this is a good place to start if you’re upgrading from a previous version of Xway. If you’re new to Xway, a good place to start is the introduction to the user guide, and the introductory tutorial (see below).
Tutorials
Written and video tutorials are available from our website. Choose Xway Resources from the Xway Help menu to go to the Xway Resources section of our website, and click on Tutorials.
A good way to become familiar with Xway is to work through the introductory Xway Tutorial. This takes you through the steps for creating a simple website. Xway is designed to create flexible websites that will adapt to any device (phones, tablets, computers).
The Xway Tutorial is the first in a series of tutorials. The next tutorials in this series are the Xway Menu Tutorial, which introduces navigation menus, and the Xway Flexbox Tutorial, which introduces Flexbox layout. All these tutorials, and the documents they create, are available from our website.
Templates
Xway can create new documents from templates (New from Template). Xway templates have responsive layouts that automatically adjust to fit any device. They are free for you to use and adapt. All templates are completely customizable. You can change colors, images, layout, fonts, etc.
To install templates, and update existing templates, choose Install Templates from the Xway application menu. We recommend storing templates in an Xway Templates folder inside your Documents folder.
