AppleWorks Drawings

I heard that Intaglio could open old AppleWorks drawing documents before the latest update, is this true?.

I Have today tried to open Claris Draw and Mac Draw file without success. Maybee it’s something about the file extension. Anybody know what file extension can be opened in Intaglio?

I just ran a test. Created a simple drawing in AppleWorks 6.2.9 and
opened it in Intaglio 3.3. The only problem was that the shape I had
filled with repeating ducks in AppleWorks came up as a fabric pattern
in Intaglio.

Didn’t do anything fancy, but it worked.

A sudden problem: Intaglio quits when asked to scale an object. Even a small test one–a single square. Even when I open a file containing a previously scaled object and try to scale the same object again.

Symptoms previous to quitting: when uniform scaling is selected, I can highlight the 100% but not change it; I can then not cancel out; when nonuniform scaling is selected, I can change both 100% options, but if I say go, program quits.

I’ve upgraded my Intaglio version recently to 3.3. Machine specs are 2-year-or-so-old iMac running 10.6.8.

Thought I’d try here before contacting developer. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks much,

-j

Also, files on which scaling was tried disappear from recent-file list, though they’re still there and can be opened by clicking on them. -j

Have you tried trashing Intaglio’s preferences Julie?

Well I’ve just applied the update and this latest version 3.3 can open most of my previous AppleWorks drawing files whereas previously I didn’t seem to be able to! I’m now very relieved!

Julie, I tried messing around with the scaling and didn’t encounter any problems at all. I agree with Tom re trashing the preference file.

Another trick would be to restart/reboot and repair permission. Shouldn’t do any harm.

Cheers to all.

OK, did a cold reboot; tried; trashed the p.list; tried; repaired permissions; tried. For each:

  1. Selected object (a group of objects);
  2. Not allowed to change 100% in uniform scale
  3. Selected non-uniform scale and enter 95% in both boxes
  4. Could see scaled object on screen
  5. Tried and faiedl to either save or print without closing scale box
  6. Clicked okay in scale box
  7. Intaglio quit

If I try to cancel out of the scale box without trying to print or save, nothing happens, and I have to force quit out of Intaglio. The only difference trashing the p.list made was to allow the file name to appear in the list of recently opened files.

For this file, which doesn’t require precision, I can do the scaling by hand, but in the future will need to scale by percentage.

Any other strategies anyone can think of?

Many cheers,

-j

Have you tried contacting Intaglio Support?
I’ve found Nick to be extremely helpful.
Also, check that your hard drive isn’t full by more than 85-90%.
Lastly, is your OS up to date?

Stewart.

Very odd. I just tried exactly what you were doing here but can’t repeat the problem.

I’m running 10.7.4 though on a Mac Mini late 2010. But I doubt that’s the problem.

Try re-downloading Intaglio and reinstalling it.

Am about to contact support, Just hoped I wouldn’t have to. Hard drive far from full, and OS is up to date as far as it could be without upgrading to Lion, which I can’t do yet because upgrade of another piece of software I use all the time isn’t ready.

Thanks all. Will go the support route.

Just checked 3.2.1 on PPC under 10.5.8. Works fine.

So, I am pretty sure that 3.3 has a bug. The first symptom on 3.3 is
that I cannot change the 100% into anything else. Even if I place the
cursor to the right of 100% and delete back and type, say 50%, the
100% comes back immediately. And then Intaglio freezes.

@ Martin: Would you like me to send you 3.2.1?

Just checked my version, and I have 3.2.1. So whoops sorry there. :?

Perhaps you could get by for now by reinstalling that version instead, then contacting Nick?

Would love dmg for 3.2.1. I have several previous ones, but none for that version, and there seems to be no option for recovering it from the Purgatory site. Hope it’s also good under 10.6.8, since that’s what I’m running.
