Still not working at 15:30 so that’s at least 2 hours without my email, and all sites are down. It’s not usually this long out of service, but as you say, seems to be happening with boring regularity this year.
I did report it to James via Zendesk about an hour ago.
Funny this time I was getting an error message from my mail app
[Postbox] saying server unavailable rather than it just filing and not
letting me know.
Not sure whether this is connected but the last time HH went down, I was getting mail bounced back as ‘Undeliverable’ to websites hosted with me at HH stating the IP was blacklisted. It’s happened again since today’s outage. Anyone else had that?
Hello!
SPAM is the culprit, I’m afraid! It’s Christmas and everybody and their Sister are sending out emails by the bushel full! Not to mention that the server itself is being flooded with SPAM from outside sources… So, yes - the servers are having issues and are overloading. We’ve had to physically reboot three times in the past 72 hours due to this. We are working on a solution but ultimately the easiest way to stop the flood of millions of SPAM emails coming in - is to stop the mailservers - and flush the queue… It’s not ideal I know but as I said, we’re trying to mitigate impacts.

Sorry, just realised my HH IP is blacklisted not recipients. Can’t send anything. Way too annoying, what is going on?
Well I don’t know if anyone else had it yesterday, but it went down
again yesterday and now I find its gone again this morning both mail and
web?!!!

and it’s down again Friday lunchtime (in the UK). If it is spam choking the servers again I hope James’ techs can get a grip on this issue. The lack of my primary email is stopping me working properly.

Nobody has complained this week though I have had to mollify some in the past. The in-depth mysteries of servers etc are beyond many so I’ve been able invoke that mystery in a waffling way. Not good though and I have mulled over changing hosting but a) James’ service has always been good value and b) it’s a hideous hassle. I suppose there comes a point when the downtime outweighs the value though.
I have to give you guys props for being so tolerant, if it were me I would have moved on. You’re far more forgiving than I would be in this situation.
I have mentioned this before in another similarly boring post. Solved the problem a few years ago—moved every thing to a new host.
Most hosts will move your sites at no cost if it is a cPanel to cPanel transfer.
