Fancy Rollover Tricks

I’m trying to do something and I don’t know how. I have shirts for sale on my site and I’d like for a new picture to show up when the buyer mouses over a particular style/color swatch. Is there an action for that?

Also, I’ve not fully decided how I’m going to work out the buy buttons for all the color & style options. So any related discussion about that would be helpful also.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Target show/hide layer with a rollover on your swatches linking to the layers with the different coloured shirt pics in them.

Also for the colour style options there is the E product variation action - example here http://www.deltadzine.net/tartan/

Can you explain this a little more to me please: Target show/hide layer with
a rollover on your swatches linking to the layers with the different
coloured shirt pics in them.

I’m going to have 5-10 different color options. I was hoping I could stack
all of them so it only took up the screen real estate of one image, but
include small color sample swatches and the image could be replaced with the
alternate color. A typical rollover doesn’t have that many options so I
wasn’t sure if that was the direction I should be looking.

This site shows kind-of what I’m looking for, except that they make you
click on the actual swatch to make the shirt change, and I’d like it to be a
rollover effect:

Here is a perfect example of what I’m trying to do:

A typical rollover doesn’t have that many options so I wasn’t sure if that was the direction I should be looking.

But remember that a rollover can use any one of 10 standard target groups, that in conjunction with 20 rollover numbers you can have loads of options (200).

And yes you can stack your 5-10 pics on top of each other.

David (and others!)

I’m getting closer, but it’s still not quite right. Can you take a look and maybe clue me in some more? The green hoodie (at the bottom of the page) is supposed to be on top. I finally got the numbers and stacking in the right order. Problem is, once you rollover the other swatches, you can’t make the green hoodie come back. I’ve tried all three options on the rollover parameters (restore>yes,no,sticky) and none seem to fix it.

The bottom right of the page is where I’m talking about. I’ve shown the other hoodies on various parts of the page to show what they should look like (no background). For some reason, when I put them on top of one another in FreeWay, a strange background color appears. I’m really clueless on that one!

Thanks everyone!

Did you download my example http://www.deltadesign.co/odds/shirts.html and use the same settings that I did?

Yes! Your example is the only reason I got as far as I did! Thank you. I think mine is set up the same way, just can’t get the green hoodie to behave. That and the weird background deal is driving me crazy!

Copy all my elements to your doc and substitute the images with yours - but do it on a blank page.

Okay, I’ll give that a go and get back with you.

This page now has your shirts but I haven’t added them to the FW file yet http://www.deltadesign.co/odds/shirts.html

Added now but I didn’t spend any time tweaking your pics (stolen from your site) which are a mix of jpgs and gifs. Best to use jpg for these.

Okay Dave,

Here it is:

It is still acting weird. Black comes up at first the way it should (with no background!), but then it disappears never to return as soon as you start rolling over the swatches. Also the strange background thing is still happening.

These are .psd images coming into FW and FW converts them to .jpeg. Could that be part of the problem?

Have you set a colour for the box holding the pics - make it white.

I assume that there is no background colour in the original psd files - if there is you need to remove it or make them all the same.

Ok, setting the background to white did the trick. Yeah!

Now, any idea what to do about my disappearing black hoodie? (The only shirt that is set to initially “visible”?

Can’t thank you enough, David!

Check that the other settings are the same ie Restore: Sticky

Well, the more I mess with it the better it gets.

I’ve confirmed that all shirt images are set to sticky, except the 1st one that is initially set to visible. That one is set to “restore:yes”

The swatch images are set up the same way—all set to sticky, except for the primary one (that links to the initially visible shirt), which is set to restore:yes.

I believe the problem is with the swatch image for the primary shirt. It will now return to the proper color, but only after you move the mouse away from the image–not while hovering over it.

Test page is located here:

my continued thanks!

The first image should have no action on it as it stays there all the time and is obscured by the other layers appearing.

So the initial image appears twice - once with the action and once with no action (the bottom most layer).

Look closely at the example doc you downloaded. It may help to delete all but your images from it so that you can see the construction better. Are you looking at the items in the Site/Page pane (at the left of your screen) with Page selected so that you can see all the items on the page.

Wow! I think I got it! What do I owe you David???

Funny thing is, in my frustration I almost stuck a duplicate image in the stack, but I thought that was just a work around. It never occurred to me that was the way the thing was intended to work!

Now I just need to figure out the buy buttons for all this! Yeah. Wish me luck…

And seriously, THANK YOU!

I was feeling all happy, now I have another head scratcher!

Everything we’ve done is based on the menu/list item. That seems limited to 20. I’ve only listed one shirt, and I’ve used up half of my limit. I have three more shirt styles to go. (4 shirt styles x 8-10 colors per style…see my problem???)

Am I missing something? In progress here:
