FontSquirrel Fonts not recognized by FW

Hi all,

and maybe especially at Paul or Dan.

If I download the @font-face kits from Font Squirrel and install them regardless on Suitcase or Apple Fontmanager, those FONTs will be recognized by all Apllications except Freeway.

Is there anybody out there having the same issue or do I miss something in here?

Thanks for any suggestions on this.

Have you restarted Freeway? Can you post a link to the problem fonts please so I can take a look please?

Hi Joe,

sure - several times and as recommended.

I tried several FONTs like

http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontfacedemo/Aurulent-Sans

or

http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontfacedemo/Belligerent-Madness

But none of them will work for me.

Thanks

Thomas

I tried the first one and Freeway is reporting it has no name. I’ll look a little further into this and let you know what I find.

Hi Joe,

did you find out something yet? Agree, one is reporting no name, others are still not existent.

Thanks

Hi Thomas,

Sorry I didn’t get back to you. I didn’t find out anything new yet sorry - just that Freeway uses a different method of including and using font files to most other applications so is likely to be down to that. This doesn’t stop you using the font though since you can reference it by name in the Font Sets dialog - you will only see the font in use in the browsers that support @font-face though.

One thing you can try is to find the font in FontSquirrel’s main library. The @font kits may contain “read only” fonts - which seem to cause Freeway to not see them - despite other applications being happy to use them.

I have had that problem to. The font riesling. I had to go to another site to get it to then put it in. But the font squirrel CSS worked in the Caxton action.

The Action should be doing its job quite happily with what comes from FontSquirrel. The other side of this is helping you design with the fonts in Freeway - and that is where setting up Font Sets is a good idea. Getting a version of the font that Freeway can work with helps no end, and preserves the WYSIWYG for you.

Well the straight answer is that most of the fonts just don’t work in Freeway. I know for my Caxton ScreenCast that the Aller font was the only one that worked after I tried at least 10-15 other fonts with no luck.

I didn’t ever really find a fix for it either.

So - what is the point of Caxton?

I’ve got it working on this site (font Dadhand). You have to remember to draw a graphic box for your text, NOT an html one, and then follow directions for use of Caxton scrupulously. When I did, it worked.

Hope this helps

But the point of Caxton is to put special fonts to HTML text so you have the searchability to the words yet you can be creative. IT works fine on an HTML box.

DanJ - I get fonts from other sites (fonts101.com etc) then upload to make a font-face kit from them instead of using their fonts. That was my solution to have different fonts work.

Great!. If someone can explain how to get it working as html, I agree that would be great! BUT, I did try for ages, and whilst not being the brightest spark on the block, I’m also not shtoopid, so what hope is there for any regular dude getting Caxton working??

Hi Julie,

yes - that’s what I’m trying to do now too. Unfortunately, Freeway crashes at that time when I try to make a “new” font-set. Hmmm - first to look at this.

I have it working on a couple of sites.

  1. make css ( I use font squirrel - upload my fonts to them and download the kit
  2. edit font sets new - set up the font set w the css. (it was also recommended to put the css in the folder of the site you are doing.
  3. draw a non layered html box on the pasteboard and apply the caxton action
  4. draw the layered html box on the site, and when you type - choose that font set. (you do not apply caxton to this one)

you will see it in preview - not on the work page.

example that I am using:
http://www.grassrootsweb.net

my menu on the right is html but using caxton

Hope that helps.

TRust me if I can do it anyone can

There is a video on my site on how to use the Caxton action.

What concerns me is copyright and so I’m not 100% confident until I’ve looked at every agreement for it to make sure I can legally use it.

Here is the link to the details page:

You will probably find regular downloads for the fonts too -so if the TTF file provided in the font kit does not work, try doing a searech to see if you can find a proper version.

Thomas: try this:

see if that works in Freeway.

Hi all,

Paul: I tried and it wont. So I did it as Julie said - in my case http://www.dafont.com (my fav.), create the kit in http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator and it works like a charm.

Dan: I agree that copyright is a big problem so let’s say:

Use your purchased (:-))) fonts to create the font-face Kit and go.

Paul: By reading your instructions, I didn’t miss anything, kept me away from getting it to work - so no need to change or add.

So to resume:

All things written - go and give Caxton a try - it’s amazing

Thanks all for clarifying this.
