How to get video to play in Freeway 5.5?

I am trying to host a video on my website. I was told to draw an HTML box, import the video them choose the HTML5 from the Actions menu.

However, I am not able to get the actions drop down to show anything at all.

What am I doing wrong? Is there another way to do this?

Thanks.

You are doing this the wrong way round.

Choose the the HTML 5 Video action from the Action Menu item in the top toolbar (Click and hold to get the list of actions to appear) then ‘Draw’ the action onto your FW page. (You can also use Insert>Action Item>HTML5 Video which will place a 100px square instance of the action on your FW page)

Resize/position the action item to suit the size of your video and with the action item still selected look in the Action Palette where you can choose your video file(s) using the selectors.

You can also use the JW Player to do this. They have a great tutorial on their website on how to use it.

Basically you will use embedded code to call the video. Set the frame size to what you need in the embedded code and you’re set.

It does both HTML-5 and flash player playback.

Thanks, but there is no HTML 5 video action listed.

Then you may have to install it from HTML5 Video - ActionsForge

But first check in Edit>Actions and see if it is listed - it may be there but unchecked.

Here is my test bed domain running it. CMS is wordpress and the template is code named crappy 1.

you can actually upload the video into youtube and then replay it as your own video through Jw Player. Even gives off a personal non-youtube embed code.

play the video and click on the menu, and you can see the embed code.

JW player also has well documented user guides on how to do this. Mine is more complex because I write robots to fetch content.

I clicked on the download and said I was about to install an action. I clicked OK but it still does not show in the list.

Shane,

Sorry, I know your posts are on point, but they are way over my head.

Ok.

The Jw Player is an open source flash video player. You download it.

To use it you will install it to the root directory of your website. If you have your website pointed to a specific file folder: install it there. (basically where the index.html/php file is)

Then in free way create a HTML box the size you want you video appear as. then plaste embedded video code there.

To get the embedded to to insert, go this part of the JW Player’s website:
http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw-player-setup-wizard

They also offer an online hosting section where they will host the video, let you choose how you want the player to look, and pay you for ads.

The benefit is that it is both HTML-5 and Flashplayer capable.

Shane

Thanks. That I can understand.

I have not been to the server site to look at the folders, but I will remind myself how to do that tomorrow and give your method a road test.

Thanks.

install XAMPP onto your mac.

Its a virtual web server for your PC. It lets you go to http://localhost/ in your browser and test function there.

It gives you a MYSQL server as well, and download Sequel Pro (free) to play with it if you want.

What I do is setup all my sites inside XAMPP for testing, and then upload them to the web servers after I am done.

You will only need to make sure you change “localhost” to your domain name when you upload". Or you will cause many, many problems. hahahahahaha

hahahahaha.

XAMPP is free program that just simply lets you mimic a website on your PC. this way you can work offline and not effect your website at all.

I’m still stuck. I do not have an HTML action on the list. I downloaded the action but it still does not show up.

What am I doing wrong?

I downloaded the action but it still does not show up.

Have you gone to the Edit Menu and down to Actions?

This will open a window showing all the actions that are available to you.

Is the HTML5 Video one in that list? And if so is it Ticked.

but can’t see the action…

Can you choose the the HTML 5 Video action from the Action Menu item in the top toolbar (Click and hold to get the list of actions to appear and HTML5 is just above iFrame) then ‘Draw’ the action onto your FW page.

Thanks Dave,

Its weird, but I installed the action and can see it above the iFrame in Edit>Actions, but in the top toolbar its not there…
It must be a bug or something. I have Freeway installed in two different computers and they’re not there…any idea?

thanks
Marcus
